Disney brought the world of Moana to the heart of London this week as stars Dwayne Johnson and Catherine Lagaʻaia made a surprise appearance at a spectacular fan event on the banks of the River Thames.
Held at Potters Fields Park, the immersive Moana Experience celebrated the upcoming release of Disney’s live-action adaptation, which arrives in UK cinemas on 10 July 2026.
Disney Brings Motunui to London
Thousands of visitors gathered at Potters Fields Park, where Disney transformed the 10,000-square-foot venue into a recreation of Moana’s island paradise, Motunui.
Visitors were treated to a giant six-metre replica of Maui’s iconic hook and a stunning recreation of Moana’s canoe, creating the perfect backdrop for fans eager to step into the world of the beloved Disney story.
The experience featured a range of family-friendly activities including:
- Lei-making workshops
- Moana-themed karaoke
- Pua-inspired pig petting experiences
- Pacific Island-inspired food and drinks
- Interactive photo opportunities
Food and refreshments were supplied by Honi Poke and Vita Coco.
Surprise Appearance from the Film’s Stars
The highlight of the day came when Johnson and Lagaʻaia unexpectedly arrived to greet fans, pose for photographs and celebrate the upcoming release of Disney’s live-action adaptation.
Joining them were Thomas Kail, director of the film, and Auliʻi Cravalho, who famously voiced Moana in the animated original.
The event was hosted by Molly Rainford and Tyler West, who helped welcome guests throughout the day.
Viral School Group Meets Dwayne Johnson
One of the most memorable moments involved pupils from St Gregory’s School.
The students had originally believed they were heading out on a standard school trip. Instead, they were surprised with tickets to the Moana Experience and the chance to meet Johnson himself.
The school recently gained attention on TikTok after posting a video asking Johnson to respond. The actor later replied with a personal video message, making the eventual face-to-face meeting even more special for the students.
Live Performances Celebrate Pacific Culture
The event also showcased a variety of live performances inspired by Pacific Island traditions.
More than 20 dancers from the London School of Hula and Ori performed a specially choreographed rendition of We Know The Way, accompanied by live Tahitian drumming.
Meanwhile, performers from Disney Theatrical productions including The Lion King and Hercules delivered performances of fan-favourite songs How Far I’ll Go and You’re Welcome.
