DANCING TO UNWIND – 69% SAY IT TURNS A BAD DAY INTO A GOOD DAY

We all know that morning meditation, lunchtime strolls and sundown stretches are good for the soul, but new research from Desperados reveals that dancing daily – be that in a nightclub, house party or even the humble kitchen – is the latest trend helping people unwind from the daily grind. In fact, of those surveyed a staggering 82% said they dance as a form of release, with a quarter (22%) doing so every single day to let loose.

The survey was conducted by Desperados, the beer brand with latin spirit, across the UK, US, Germany, Belgium and Spain, and also revealed that dancing has the power to make people feel happier (79%) and has the ability to transform a bad day into a good day (69%). Over two-thirds (68%) of respondents say some of their best memories involve dancing as a result.

The new research marks the launch of Desperados Dance Club – an updated iteration of the dance-powered app, now turning dance steps into major rewards and epic experiences, both for themselves and others.

With all-new functionality, partygoers can now open the app and dance from anywhere, at any time to start unlocking rewards, including VIP access, festival tickets and more, either for themselves, or they can choose to raise cash for charities that champion inclusivity – Stonewall & Women in Music. For every 100 dance steps, Desperados will donate €1 to these charities in a bid to make dancefloors a safer and more accessible space for all, with app users invited to boost how much they donate with a direct contribution via the charity website.

Dancing clearly goes beyond just a sport – almost half of respondents (44%) said dancing makes them feel free and another 61% confirmed it helps them to feel connected to the people around them, establishing a sense of community. As such, through the new and improved app features, Desperados is helping this community to come together and thrive by enabling them to get up and dance whenever and wherever they feel like it, and will also be creating and sponsoring events designed to help people let loose and connect with others.

And when it comes to the tunes that get people up on their feet, the top 5 dancefloor fillers are revealed as:

  • “Dancing Queen” – ABBA
  • “Macarena” – Los Del Rio
  • “Y.M.C.A” – Village People
  • “Stayin’ Alive” – Bee Gees
  • “Despacito” – Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee

Dance just 500 steps from anywhere – from nightclubs, to house parties and festivals – to unlock the full dance floor filler playlist in the app.

The Top 5 Dancefloor Destinations Are Revealed As:

  • Nightclub (31%)
  • House party (27%)
  • Wedding (23%)
  • Festival (17%)
  • Bedroom (10%)

The updated experiential platform follows Desperados’ previous Rave to Save initiative – a campaign that saw partygoers tune into a series of innovative parties to dance and raise cash for charity, which saw €165,000 donated to Stonewall and Women in Music last year.

Robbie De Santos, Director of Communications and External Affairs at Stonewall said: “We are thrilled to join forces with Desperados again to promote inclusivity and representation within the electronic music scene, using the Desperados Dance Club app. Last year, partygoers raised almost £70,000 helping Stonewall to campaign for LGBTQ+ people’s human rights, supporting our core campaigns to ban conversion practices, campaign for trans people’s rights, and to improve healthcare for all LGBTQ+ people. With the continued support of the Desperados Dance Club community, we can make LGBTQ+ rights a top priority for leaders across society and secure a positive future for LGBTQ+ people everywhere.”

Nicole Barsalona, President at Women in Music said: “Women in Music is committed to creating safer spaces and we are delighted to extend our partnership with Desperados Dance Club, empowering dance lovers to make a positive impact and create a more inclusive entertainment space. Thanks to last year’s Rave to Save campaign, we’ve been able to provide more women with education and advancement opportunities around the world – we can’t wait to see what we’re able to accomplish together this year to positively impact the future of entertainment.”

Rutger van der Stegen, Global Head of Desperados said: “We’re so excited to be announcing the launch of Dance Club, helping to bring communities together through the power of movement and music! And what better way to get your groove on than knowing you could be earning rewards not only for yourself, but for others as well, whilst raising funds for charity at the same time. Once again, we’re incredibly proud to be partnering with leading inclusive charities Stonewall and Women in Music, as we aim to make dance floors around the world a safe and accessible space for all.”
