This March, London will be transported back in time to Ancient Egypt as Cleopatra: The Experience makes its UK debut at Immerse LDN, located on the Excel London Waterfront. Running for a strictly limited 15-week engagement, the exhibition promises a groundbreaking mix of history, technology, and immersive storytelling that’s perfect for families, culture lovers, and history enthusiasts alike.
Step Into the World of Cleopatra
Spanning 3,000 square metres and featuring nine interactive galleries, Cleopatra: The Experience invites visitors to discover the life, reign, and legacy of Egypt’s final pharaoh. Developed in collaboration with historical curators, Egyptologists, and endorsed by British Cleopatra expert Dr. Chris Naunton, the exhibition combines meticulous historical accuracy with state-of-the-art projection technology to create an unforgettable journey through time.
Guests enter through a symbolic setting sun, representing the end of Ancient Egypt with Cleopatra as its last ruler. An educational hologram presentation charts the full story of the Ptolemaic Dynasty, from the arrival of Alexander the Great and the dynasty’s founding to the final days of Ancient Egypt, providing essential context to Cleopatra’s life and reign.
Explore History in the Metaverse
Visitors can continue their journey in a free-roaming Metaverse space, putting on Alternate Reality goggles to explore Alexandria’s catacombs, witness Alexander the Great’s coronation at the Siwa Oasis, and step inside Mark Antony’s tent during the Battle of Actium. The experience culminates in Cleopatra’s royal chamber, offering a glimpse of the queen gazing over the Bay of Alexandria and the Lighthouse.
Original Artefacts Bring Ancient Egypt to Life
The exhibition also showcases over 22 original artefacts from the Hellenistic and Late Egyptian periods, presented in collaboration with the Felix Cervera Archaeology Gallery in Barcelona. Highlights include terracotta sculptures, bronze figures of Isis and Osiris, glass mosaic fragments, cosmetic vessels, and a previously unpublished collection of demotic papyri, giving visitors an authentic connection to Cleopatra’s world.
Cleopatra’s Private Chamber and the City of Alexandria
Step into Cleopatra’s private chamber to see interactive mirrors revealing her iconic makeup, hairstyles, and the symbolism behind them. An interactive map of Alexandria allows guests to explore the historic city, enhanced with 5D sensory elements, including atmospheric scents. The experience culminates in a video-mapping and sound show projected onto a five-metre-tall recreation of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Epic Cinematic Storytelling
In a stunning 360-degree cinematic gallery, visitors soar over Alexandria, witness Cleopatra’s coronation, enter the Temple of Isis, explore the Library of Alexandria, and relive her alliances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony. The final section depicts the dramatic Battle of Actium, a pivotal moment in Cleopatra’s story, using cutting-edge projection mapping.
Virtual Reality Finale
The exhibition concludes with a 90-minute seated Virtual Reality experience, immersing visitors in the catastrophic earthquake that sank Alexandria. Explore submerged ruins, lost temples, and sphinxes before witnessing Cleopatra’s burial ritual in the Temple of Isis—a spectacular finale that blends education and entertainment seamlessly.
