To celebrate Black History Month 2024, the global ticketing marketplace viagogo has revealed the highest selling and most in demand Black acts and artists on the platform over the past year.
Following an iconic Superbowl performance in February and a critically-acclaimed Vegas residency, Usher reigns as the most searched tour ticket by a Black artist based on millions of page views.
The ‘Burn‘ singer is headed back to the UK after a decade to headline London’s O2 Arena next summer for 10 nights – however fresh data reveals that the singer is in demand for even more shows. Based on global data from viagogo – numbers equating to the populations of Greece and New Zealand combined have searched for Usher tickets since January 2024.
Travis Scott landed the top spot as the biggest-selling black act as his ‘Circus Maximus‘ World Tour continues to smash touring records, as it emerged as the highest-grossing rap tour of 2024. Travis Scott ticket sales according to viagogo data are enough to fill both the O2 Arena and The Troxy in East London.
Travis was closely followed by a string of male R&B stars including: Usher, Bryson Tiller, Ne-Yo and Chris Brown.
Nicki Minaj and her ‘Pink Friday 2 World Tour‘ appeared at the top of the highest-selling black female artist list on viagogo, followed closely by a list of multi-generational greats like: Janet Jackson, Raye, Doja Cat, Mariah Carey and SZA.
Interestingly, female rap acts dominated the list as Missy Elliot, Megan Thee Stallion and newcomers Sexxy Red and Kari Faux all featured in the top 25 women’s acts.
Finally, the ticketing platform has shone a spotlight on the Black-British acts taking the live music industry by storm. Rap duo, D-Block Europe were crowned at number one, followed by five-time BRIT award winning singer-songwriter Raye.
In third place, following the news of his last-ever headline show, fans of North-West London rapper Nines rushed to buy tickets to his O2 Arena date on 27 November 2024.
The list includes both black and mixed origin acts. The top 10 ranking also highlights up and coming homegrown pop-icons like Olivia Dean, Jorja Smith, Cat Burns and Pink Pantheress who have collated huge online fan bases over the past year.
Other acts in the top 20 feature alternative acts with cult followings like Sampha, Ezra Collective and Michael Kiwanuka. Grime pioneer Dizzee Rascal’s 20th anniversary tour also earned him a top 20 spot, alongside Garage legends Craig David and DJ Spoony.
