BEATRIX RETURNS WITH SOPHOMORE ALBUM WE SWALLOWED THE SKY ON APRIL 24!

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Beatrix, the moniker of Arielle Kasnetz, is set to release her highly anticipated second album, We Swallowed The Sky, on April 24 via Nice Life Recording Company. The orchestral indie rock, folk, and chamber-pop project sees Kasnetz delving deep into memory, creating a collection of songs that are at once intimate, bold, and melodically unpredictable. Pre-save the album here.

A Journey Through Memory and Emotion

We Swallowed The Sky threads a haunting narrative through its tracks, as Kasnetz revisits a long-gone relationship, allowing its “ghost” to echo across the record. Pedal steel weaves between past, present, and future, while the arrangements swing from hushed piano introspection to full-band, cinematic climaxes. Kasnetz describes the album as the most authentic expression of herself to date, a record in which she finally feels fully “in her own form.”

New Single: “Class Reunion”

The album’s announcement comes alongside the release of new single and video “Class Reunion”. The track demonstrates Kasnetz’s gift for storytelling, portraying a tense, awkward encounter between former lovers a decade after their relationship ended. The narrative, rich in detail, captures the vulnerability, anxiety, and lingering emotions of reconnecting with a past love.

Kasnetz explains:

“Ten years later, they see each other at a class reunion. He has never quite moved on… The conversation is brief and awkward… He wakes up, and she’s gone. It wasn’t real — it was just a nightmare. But one thing is true — no one loves him like she did.”

The video, described as Twin Peaks meets The Office, is set in a sterile community center and captures a uniquely tense, almost surreal atmosphere. Beatrix’s gaze holds viewers captive, blending humor, discomfort, and empathy in equal measure.

Creating the Album: A Star-Studded Ensemble

After relocating from New York to Los Angeles, Kasnetz quickly immersed herself in a vibrant music community, collaborating closely with Philip Etherington and Ehren Ebbage, who co-produced the album. The record’s core trio recordings later expanded into a full ensemble featuring:

  • Guitarists Harrison Whitford (Phoebe Bridgers) and Ryan Lerman (John Legend, Ben Folds, Vulfpeck)

  • Bassist Sean Hurley (John Mayer, Arlo Guthrie)

  • Drummer Rob Humphries (Kacey Musgraves)

  • Pianist Zac Rae (Death Cab For Cutie, Fiona Apple)

  • Pedal steel Greg Leisz (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Rufus Wainwright)

  • Horns CJ Camerieri (Paul Simon, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens)

  • Woodwinds Jesse Chandler (Midlake, Mercury Rev)

  • String arrangements by Rob Moose (Sufjan Stevens, Taylor Swift, Jay-Z)

This collaboration blends orchestral sophistication with indie-rock rawness, giving the album its dynamic, unpredictable energy.

About Beatrix:

Arielle Kasnetz, known professionally as Beatrix, spent most of her early life immersed in classical music, training in vocal scales and piano pieces. However, it wasn’t until the pandemic, stranded with an acoustic guitar gifted to her years earlier, that she began writing music for herself. This journey of self-discovery and artistic honesty culminates in We Swallowed The Sky, a deeply personal exploration of past relationships, memory, and emotional resonance.

The album’s sound fuses indie rock, folk, and chamber-pop, balancing delicate, introspective piano pieces with sweeping full-band arrangements. It’s a record that reflects both Kasnetz’s personal evolution and her commitment to musical experimentation, capturing moments of vulnerability, reflection, and catharsis.
