American Express has partnered with three small, independent restaurants in London – Bubala, Humble Chicken and Coal Rooms – to create spectacular new tasting menu experiences to celebrate 10 years of its Shop Small campaign in the UK.

Bubala Soho and Humble Chicken have designed ten-course feasts to mark the occasion. The former will be turning the traditional Sunday Roast on its head with an alternative Sunday menu comprised of delicious vegetarian and vegan options including confit potato latkes and halloumi, while Humble Chicken is offering a ‘beak to tail’ 10-dish yakitori concept, with a skewer focus as well as Nanban Katsu Sando and Grilled Oyster.

Meanwhile Coal Rooms in Peckham is offering a menu inspired by the number ten, with ten-hour braised rib, ten-month aged cheddar and ten-year sherry vinegar.

A nationwide poll, conducted by American Express Shop Small showed that only 30% of Brits have tried a tasting menu before, so these celebratory menus at just £15 per head* encourage more people to give them a try.

What’s more, diners who pay with an enrolled American Express Card will have the opportunity to receive a £5 statement credit as part of the Shop Small Offer, meaning they could enjoy an incredible meal for just £10 per head*.

The survey, commissioned by American Express Shop Small, also showed that 57% of Brits prefer to support restaurants that use local, independent suppliers, with 62% of those believing it’s important that local and independent businesses support each other, especially in difficult times.

With that in mind, local suppliers are central to each of the tasting menus with everything from free-range Suffolk Sutton Hoo Chickens and celebrated London independent greengrocer All Greens through to Greenford’s Belazu Ingredient Company and independent coffee roasteries.

Reservations are powered by Resy, the restaurant booking platform that powers many of the UK’s best restaurants, and an American Express-owned company. Those who want to book one of the three experiences can head to the Shop Small Hub to begin booking: amexshopsmall.co.uk

Booking opens at 9:00am Friday 2 December ahead of the UK’s 10th Small Business Saturday on 3 December, of which American Express is the founder and principal supporter.

The three experiences are available on the following dates:

  • Coal Rooms – Wednesday 7 December (18:00 – close)
  • Humble Chicken – Friday 9 December (12:15 -15:30)
  • Bubala Soho – Sunday 11 December (12:00-16:00)
