In a city as fast-paced (and app-saturated) as London, finding genuine connection can feel harder than ever. Enter Almost Lovers, an East London–based dating business and event series designed to get singles off their phones and into real-life conversations.
Founded by Sophia, Almost Lovers is on a mission to redefine modern dating by creating inclusive, safe and welcoming spaces where meaningful connections can happen organically — no swiping required.
As conversations around dating fatigue and app burnout continue to dominate headlines, IRL dating events are making a serious comeback. And in a city craving community, Almost Lovers couldn’t have launched at a better time.
A New Era of Dating in London
Almost Lovers hosted its debut event in January, bringing together 30 singles in East London for a thoughtfully curated evening of five-minute speed dates.
But this wasn’t your typical awkward speed-dating set-up.
Participants privately recorded their interest after each mini-date, with matches shared afterwards. The result? A pressure-free environment that removed the uncomfortable “so… do you want my number?” moment and allowed genuine chemistry to lead the way.
The atmosphere was intentionally open and relaxed. Many guests arrived solo, while others came with friends — reinforcing the brand’s ethos that how you show up doesn’t matter, as long as you show up.
For Londoners tired of algorithm-driven romance, this felt refreshing.
WLW Night at Chiave Shoreditch
Following the success of its launch, Almost Lovers is now hosting a WLW (women-loving-women) dating event at one of Shoreditch’s most intimate cocktail bars — Chiave.
Location: Chiave, Shoreditch
Date: 12 March
Time: 7pm–9pm (with DJs afterwards)
Unlike the structured speed-dating format of the first event, this evening will embrace a more relaxed and fluid atmosphere. Guests will be encouraged to mingle freely, supported by conversation prompts and detail-swapping cards designed to spark connection naturally.
With DJs playing after 9pm, the event transitions from curated introductions into a full social night — blending dating with East London nightlife energy.
Tickets are available now via the official Almost Lovers page here.
Why IRL Dating Events Are Having a Moment
Post-pandemic London has seen a renewed hunger for in-person experiences — from supper clubs to run clubs to creative meet-ups. Dating is simply the next frontier.
Almost Lovers taps into that desire for:
-
Authentic conversation
-
Intentional social spaces
-
A break from endless swiping
-
Community-first events
In a city of nearly nine million people, loneliness can still creep in. Curated events like this help make London feel smaller — and a little more human.
