Pasta lovers can travel from Emilia-Romagna to Capri without leaving Spitalfields, as ALFI launches five hands-on pasta-making workshops throughout October.
Forget booking a flight to Italy this autumn – Londoners can experience a taste of la dolce vita in the heart of Spitalfields as independent Italian restaurant ALFI launches its brand-new Pasta Passport this October.
The Spitalfields Market restaurant is celebrating Pasta Month with a five-stop culinary journey through Italy, inviting pasta lovers to roll up their sleeves, enjoy a glass of Prosecco and learn how to make some of the country’s most recognisable pasta shapes from scratch.
Running throughout October, the experience will travel from Emilia-Romagna to Tuscany, Sicily, Amalfi and Capri, with each two-hour workshop focusing on a different regional pasta tradition.
And for anyone who simply cannot choose between them, ALFI’s Pasta Passport gives guests access to all five sessions for £200, saving £40 compared with booking each class individually.
Five Italian Destinations, Nine Pasta Shapes
The ALFI Pasta Passport has been designed as a whistle-stop tour of Italy’s pasta traditions, with each workshop introducing guests to two different shapes.
Whether you’re already comfortable in the kitchen or have never made fresh pasta before, the classes are designed to be accessible to beginners while still offering something new for experienced home cooks.
Emilia-Romagna – Tagliatelle & Strozzapreti
3 October | 3pm–5pm | £48 per person
The journey begins in Emilia-Romagna, widely celebrated for its rich culinary traditions.
Guests will learn how to make two classic shapes from scratch: tagliatelle and strozzapreti, getting hands-on with the dough before taking their freshly made pasta home.
Tuscany – Pici & Maltagliati
11 October | 1pm–3pm | £48 per person
Next up is Tuscany, where the focus turns to two wonderfully rustic pasta shapes.
Guests will make hand-rolled pici, alongside irregular, torn maltagliati, offering a chance to explore the more rustic side of Italian pasta-making.
Sicily – Busiate & Casarecce
17 October | 3pm–5pm | £48 per person
The third stop arrives on National Pasta Day, Saturday 17 October, with ALFI heading south to Sicily.
The workshop will focus on busiate and casarecce, two traditional shapes with plenty of character – making this the perfect excuse to celebrate National Pasta Day with a little flour, a glass of Prosecco and some homemade pasta.
Amalfi – Maccheroni al Ferretto
23 October | 7pm–9pm | £48 per person
The tour then heads towards the Amalfi Coast for an evening dedicated to maccheroni al ferretto.
Guests will learn how to shape the pasta using a traditional thin rod, creating its distinctive hollow centre.
Capri – Lemon & Ricotta Ravioli
31 October | 3pm–5pm | £48 per person
The final stop is Capri, bringing the month-long journey to a suitably Mediterranean conclusion.
The workshop will focus on delicate lemon and ricotta ravioli, inspired by Capri’s famous citrus groves and bright coastal flavours.
It’s a fitting finale to a month spent exploring Italy one pasta shape at a time.
What’s Included in an ALFI Pasta Club Class?
Each two-hour workshop includes everything needed to get stuck in.
Guests receive a welcome glass of Prosecco, all ingredients and equipment, expert guidance from the ALFI team and the chance to make two pasta shapes during the class.
There’s also one particularly important takeaway – the pasta you’ve made yourself.
Guests can take their creations home, alongside recipe cards, giving them the opportunity to recreate what they’ve learnt in their own kitchen.
According to ALFI, its Pasta Club was inspired by the traditions of Italian home cooking and the experience of learning to shape pasta by hand from family members. The restaurant says the workshops have become an increasingly popular part of its offering.

The Pasta Passport: Five Classes for £200
For serious pasta enthusiasts, the Pasta Passport offers entry to all five October workshops for £200 per person.
Individual Pasta Club classes cost £48, meaning the five-class passport represents a £40 saving while giving guests the chance to experience every stop on ALFI’s Italian journey.
One passport. Five classes. Five destinations. Nine pasta shapes.
Guests can also add ALFI’s Pasta & Pour wine pairing on the day, with wines matched to the region and pasta shapes being explored during that particular workshop.
So, yes, there is absolutely an excuse to have a little vino with your handmade pasta.
No Pasta-Making Experience? No Problem
You don’t need to be an Italian nonna – or even particularly confident in the kitchen – to take part.
ALFI’s workshops are designed for both beginners and experienced cooks, with the team providing guidance throughout the process.
The idea is less about creating perfect pasta on the first attempt and more about learning a new skill, getting hands-on and discovering the traditions behind different Italian pasta shapes.
As ALFI co-founders Ben and Alex explain, making pasta is a skill that can continue long after the workshop has finished.
“There’s something about making pasta by hand that people really connect with. It’s a skill you can take home and do again and again.”
The pair say the Pasta Passport was created to allow guests to experience several different regional traditions without having to leave London.
And honestly, that’s a pretty tempting alternative to airport queues.
A Taste of Italy in Spitalfields
ALFI is already known for its Neapolitan pizza, fresh pasta and Italian wines, but the restaurant has increasingly expanded its offering beyond traditional dining.
Located at Spitalfields Market, the independent Italian restaurant also runs a range of creative experiences, including Paint & Sip, Scented Candle Making, Cocktail Making and Sip & Bouquet.
The restaurant’s pizza is made using dough that is cold-fermented for 36 hours, while its wider food offering focuses on modern Italian cooking, seasonal ingredients and fresh pasta.
That makes the Pasta Passport a natural extension of what ALFI is already doing: bringing Italian food, drink and hands-on experiences together in East London.
