The wonderfully chaotic world of comedy and football is colliding once again as Alex Horne brings back his beloved Comedy Football Trophy this May — and this year, it’s bigger (and sillier) than ever.
For the first time in the event’s history, both teams heading onto the pitch will be backed by official sponsors. Birds Eye has stepped in to support Chicken City, while FREE will sponsor their rivals, Egg United — setting up a tongue-in-cheek showdown that finally aims to answer the age-old question: which came first, the chicken or the egg?
A Day of Football, Comedy and Chaos at Chesham United
The event will take place at The Meadow, home of Chesham United, on Saturday 16th May. Known for blending absurd humour with grassroots football, the Comedy Football Trophy promises an afternoon packed with unpredictable antics, light-hearted competition, and plenty of laughs.
But beyond the jokes and the on-pitch chaos, the event also carries a meaningful purpose. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards supporting Slough Homeless Our Concern and Thames Valley Adventure Playground — two charities doing vital work in their communities.
Birds Eye and FREE Bring the Flavour (and the Fun)
With sponsorship now in play, both teams will be fuelled — quite literally — by their partners.
Birds Eye’s Chicken Shop range will keep Chicken City energised, with wings expected to play a starring role both on and off the pitch. Claire Sutton, Marketing Director at Birds Eye, leaned into the humour, saying the team’s “wing play” could be key to cracking the opposition’s defence.
Meanwhile, FREE is backing Egg United with equal enthusiasm. The brand described the event as “joyful nonsense,” celebrating its blend of football, comedy, and unpredictability — all for a good cause.
A Growing Event with Big Support
This year’s event also sees Nest Pensions join as an event sponsor, further cementing the Comedy Football Trophy as a growing fixture in the UK’s charity and entertainment calendar.
Horne himself expressed excitement about the expanding lineup of partners, highlighting the “terrific family of sponsors” helping bring the event to life.
How to Get Tickets
With limited availability and no walk-up sales on the day, fans are encouraged to secure their spot early. Tickets can be purchased via the official Chesham United website: https://cheshamunited.co.uk/comedy-football-trophy-2026/
The Comedy Football Trophy continues to prove that sport doesn’t always have to be serious to make an impact. By combining humour, community spirit, and charity fundraising, Alex Horne’s creation offers something refreshingly different — a reminder that sometimes, the most memorable matches are the ones that don’t take themselves too seriously.
Whether you’re there for the football, the comedy, or simply the chaos, this is one fixture that promises to deliver.
