Rick and Morty is back and more unstable than ever. Adult Swim’s Emmy-winning animated sci-fi comedy returns this spring with the world premiere of Season 8 on May 25, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT & May 26, 2025, at 4:00 AM BST on Adult Swim and streaming begins September 1st on Max and Hulu.
After the multiverse-shattering events of Season 7, our favorite chaotic duo are still picking up the galactic pieces. Last season saw Rick finally confront Rick Prime — the elusive, remorseless version of himself responsible for the murder of his original family.
The clash was brutal and deeply personal, cracking open Rick’s emotional armor in ways fans have never seen.
Season 8 dives headfirst into fresh timelines, new villains and even messier emotions, and some surprisingly tender moments — all wrapped in blood, jokes, and the occasional 4th-wall-shattering existential spiral.
Season 8 is shaping up to be even wackier and more chaotic than ever. From time-loop paradoxes that threaten to turn entire episodes inside out, to cursed artifacts, planet-sized parasites, and Rick’s misguided attempt to become “emotionally stable,” the show is pushing its weirdness threshold to new cosmic heights.
Fans can expect unpredictable narrative detours, sudden tonal whiplash, and the kind of boundary-shattering experimentation that has made Rick and Morty a cult phenomenon.
Fans can also expect bold new dimensions, distorted timelines, and at least one return from a fan-favorite character thought to be gone forever. The creators promise a balance between standalone episodic chaos and longform emotional arcs, meaning you’ll get both: the ridiculous and the resonant.
Season 8 is also experimenting with genre more aggressively. For instance, the episode titled “Cryo Mort a Rickver” hints at a parody of sci-fi horror tropes, possibly referencing the Alien franchise, which is known for its use of cryo-sleep scenarios. This aligns with the show’s history of satirizing popular sci-fi and horror elements.
Additionally, the episode “The Curicksous Case of Bethjamin Button” appears to be a play on The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, suggesting a twist on romantic or dramatic storytelling. While there hasn’t been an official confirmation of an episode filmed entirely as a retro ’90s sitcom, the show’s creators have a track record of experimenting with different formats and genres, so such an episode wouldn’t be out of character.
Multiversal travel is still on the table, but this season’s real journey might be internal.
Produced by Adult Swim, Rick and Morty continues to be one of the most popular and influential adult animated series in the world, known for its dark humor, heady sci-fi, and surprisingly heartfelt moments.
Catch the Season 8 premiere of Rick and Morty on May 25, 2025, only on Adult Swim. All previous seasons are streaming now on HBO Max.
