2024 one to watch DJ Chloé Robinson Shortlisted for Mary Anne Hobbs ICONS Mix of the Year

One of the fastest-growing talents in British clubland DJ and Producer Chloe Robinson has been shortlisted for the Mary Anne Hobbs’ prestigious ICONS Mix of the Year 2023.

Chloé Robinson’s evolution into a DJ/producer reaches its zenith with her new alias, symbolising a refined musical focus and an expanded array of projects. Formerly Barely Legal, she explored UK bass, grime, and dubstep for a decade before delving into production and forming her own label Pretty Weird Records. Her multi-genre mixes, featuring techno, electro, and UK garage, showcase her diverse musical range and have established hers as a rising force in the electronic music industry.

Mary Ann Hobbs’ ICONS Mix of the Year Award is an annual recognition that celebrates outstanding contributions to electronic music. The award process involves selecting a shortlist of 5 mixes which will be announced on her daytime show on December 19th. These mixes will then be featured on her radio show  one per day during Christmas week, from December 25th to December 29th. An independent panel of four judges consisting of Daniel Avery, Jamz Supernova, Judy Griffith (Fabric), and Carl Loben (DJ Mag), will assess the mixes and decide on the winner which will be revealed on her show on December 29th.

Chloé Robinson has had a great year running her label, Pretty Weird. She’s played at numerous sold out venues across the US and Canada that included shutting down Hollywood Boulevard and an exclusive party in Beverly Hills with Skrillex.

Yet despite mingling with influential figures in the club scene, Robinson and DJ ADHD have managed to create their finest music to date. Building on the success of last year’s unique Steamin’ EP and a release for fabric Originals, the duo are back for more with” 0121 Do One“. This track seamlessly weaves through the realms of contemporary club, tech house, and UK techno, earning a coveted spot on BBC 6 Music’s C playlist and proving that the duo is swiftly emerging as one of the most formidable in electronic music.

In light of this prestigious nomination for Mary Ann Hobbs’ ICONS Mix of the Year 2023, Robinson said “Mary Anne Hobbs is a remarkable figure in the music industry, using her influence to spotlight others, particularly women and non-binary musicians. Her long-term support for my music and releases has been invaluable to me especially during a challenging period of illness. Being shortlisted for ICONS Mix of the year is incredible and I am so deeply grateful to Mary Anne Hobbs and Radio 6 Music for the opportunity and recognition.”

So what’s in store for 2024?  “Keep it fun—not too serious—and don’t have any rules.” These simple yet profound directives encapsulate Chloe’s unrestricted approach to her music and a desire for creativity, spontaneity, and a willingness to explore diverse sounds without being bound by traditional conventions.
