2011 CALLED: TURBO TANGO IS BACK FOR A NEW GENERATION OF FANS!

The iconic aerosol-powered Tango drink is making a limited-edition comeback this September, with just 2,000 cans available for fans to get their hands on.

If you remember the early 2010s, chances are you remember Turbo Tango. Now, more than a decade after it first became a cult favourite, the bizarrely brilliant aerosol-powered soft drink is officially making a comeback.

After years of online petitions, social media posts and fans repeatedly asking for its return, Tango is bringing Turbo Tango back for an ultra-limited run this September – giving nostalgic Millennials the chance to relive a taste of their childhood and introducing Gen Z to one of the strangest drinks of the 2010s.

What Was Turbo Tango?

First launched in 2011, Turbo Tango made waves as the world’s first aerosol soft drink. Rather than being poured from a traditional can or bottle, the drink was dispensed as an edible, foamy spray.

The unusual format quickly earned Turbo Tango cult status, transforming a can of Tango into more of an experience than a conventional soft drink.

While Turbo Tango eventually disappeared from shelves, its reputation never quite went away. Social media conversations, nostalgic posts and fan campaigns have kept the drink alive online for more than a decade.

Now, Tango is finally answering the calls.

Only 2,000 Turbo Tango Cans Are Coming Back

The comeback is deliberately limited, with just 2,000 cans produced.

Rather than launching nationwide, the cans will be distributed through a series of creator-led social media drops, meaning fans will need to keep an eye on Tango’s social channels and participating creators for their chance to grab one.

And with such a small number available, this could be one of the most sought-after retro food and drink releases of the year.

Turbo Tango Lab Party Comes to Manchester

The first opportunity to get your hands on the returning Turbo Tango will be at the Turbo Tango Lab Party at Gorilla in Manchester on 9 September 2026, running from 4pm to 6:30pm.

A second creator drop will follow in another UK city the following week, hosted by JV and Biggs.

Fans can follow @drinktango and @jvandbiggss on social media for further details and announcements.

Why Are We So Nostalgic for the 2010s?

Turbo Tango’s return comes at a time when 2000s and 2010s nostalgia is everywhere, from retro fashion and technology to discontinued snacks and drinks.

According to new research commissioned by Tango, 89% of Millennials feel nostalgic for discontinued food and drinks from their childhood, while 73% of Gen Z Brits say they have searched social media for retro or discontinued snacks and drinks from the 2000s or 2010s.

The early 2010s might not feel that long ago, but for younger consumers, the era is increasingly becoming retro.

And apparently, there are plenty of things from the decade that Gen Z would happily bring back.

The 2010s Things Gen Z Wants Back

Alongside Turbo Tango, Tango’s research found that Gen Z Brits would most like to see several other staples of the early 2010s make a comeback.

The top picks include:

  • Phones coming with chargers and headphones in the box – 46%
  • The iPod – 40%
  • 3D movies – 26%
  • Wearing high heels on a night out – 20%

Some things, however, are better left in 2011.

The 2010s Habits Gen Z Wants to Leave Behind

While Gen Z might be embracing the aesthetics and nostalgia of the decade, Tango’s research also highlighted some everyday Millennial habits that younger Brits apparently find baffling.

These include:

  • Signing in and out of instant messenger to get someone’s attention – 31%
  • Poking people on social media – 30%
  • Waiting weeks for holiday photos to be developed – 29%
  • Turning up at a friend’s house without messaging first – 29%

In other words, bring back the iPod – but perhaps leave the unexplained Facebook poke where it belongs.

Tango Is Bringing Back ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’

Turbo Tango’s return follows Tango’s revival of its iconic ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ marketing line earlier this summer.

The brand is using the campaign to reconnect with fans who remember Tango from its heyday while introducing its distinctive sense of humour to a younger audience.

Dave Laidler, Brand Director at Carlsberg Britvic, said the brand had seen the demand for Turbo Tango building over the years.

“We’ve seen the fan chatter, online petitions, and the demand for a return build over the years and the enthusiasm for Turbo Tango has never faded,” he said.

The brand now hopes the comeback will allow longtime fans to revisit a much-loved piece of 2010s nostalgia while giving younger Tango fans the chance to discover it for themselves.

How to Get Turbo Tango

With only 2,000 cans available, fans will need to act quickly.

The first Turbo Tango drop takes place at the Turbo Tango Lab Party at Gorilla in Manchester on 9 September, from 4pm to 6:30pm.

A second creator-led drop will take place in another UK city the following week, with details expected through JV and Biggs.
