Wicked, the West End and Broadway musical phenomenon, has been performing at London’s Apollo Victoria theatre for a remarkable 17 years!
This dazzlingly popular show, telling the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz has been watched and enjoyed by more than 11 million people in this venue alone. In fact, it has been hailed by some as ‘One of the most successful musicals of all time.’
So, what is the secret to its success?
Well, at the heart of every show is of course its cast and over the years Wicked has seen some of the world’s best musical theatre stars perform in its iconic and much-loved roles.
The announcement of their full cast line-up for 2023 has surprised us with the news that alongside glittering new talent, we’ll see some familiar faces back on the Wicked stage. We can’t wait to see what they bring to the show this year, and we know that each and every cast member will make us want to return again and again with their show-stopping performances!
To celebrate the new cast announcement and to prepare ourselves as the show moves into this exciting new chapter, we’re taking a look at the Wicked cast…
Alexia Khadime as Elphaba
Leading the company as Elphaba, Wicked’s misunderstood green witch, will be Alexia Khadime. She is in fact returning to this powerful role, one she played previously to universal acclaim in 2008 and again in 2009/10. She’s experienced in taking on lead roles in the West End as she’s performed in some envious titles, including; Nala in Disney’s Lion King, Eponine in Les Misérables, Nabulungi in The Book of Mormon and most recently Miriam in The Prince of Egypt. We are delighted that she’ll be Defying Gravity once more and we’re ready to accompany her all the way to the Emerald City.
Phantom of the Opera star Lucy St. Louis as Glinda
Taking on the preppy role of Wicked’s beautiful and ever so popular ‘good witch’ is Lucy St. Louis. She played Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, and we know she’ll make an incredible Glinda. Her previous lead roles include Diana Ross in Motown The Musical and Antonia in Man of La Mancha, along with theatre credits in Ragtime, The Book of Mormon and Beautiful: The Carol King Musical. We’ve no doubt that Alexia and Lucy’s stage chemistry, as the two unlikely university friends, will be electrifying.
Caitlin Anderson as Nessarose
Performing as Nessarose in the new cast of Wicked is Caitlin Anderson who graduated in 2018. She trained at the MGA Academy of Performing Arts in Scotland and this role marks her West End debut! We know this will be the first of many incredible roles for Caitlin and we can’t wait to see the fresh talent she brings to her Nessarose performance.
Joe Thompson-Oubari as Boq
No stranger to the show, Joe Thompson-Oubari is a current cast member in Wicked and he will be stepping up from his ensemble role to perform as Boq. Whilst he’s played the role on many occasions, it will now be official, and his promotion is much deserved. Since graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2018 Joe has been putting his MA (Distinction) in Musical Theatre to good use, and he’ll make a fantastic Boq this year. In fact, we’re pretty sure we’ll love seeing him in the role just as much as he loves a certain sparkly witch.
Other cast members not to be missed include former Blue Peter presenter Mark Curry as The Wizard, Ryan Reid as Fiyero, Sophie-Louise Dann as Madame Morrible and Simeon Truby as Doctor Dillamond.
