What to drink now: Bombay Sapphire

This summer, Bombay Sapphire is set to celebrate the launch of its latest Special Edition, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Sunset, with a series of Cocktails & Create masterclasses and Sunset Session Terrace Takeovers, hosted against the beautiful backdrop of two of the most popular staycation spots – London and Cornwall. As Brits prepare to discover the best that Britain has to offer, the world’s leading premium gin brand has partnered with two top-tier hotels, with an immersive event series designed to tap into the senses. These masterclasses are tailored to allow guests to slow down and learn new skills, exploring their creative side via the mediums of art and mixology – the perfect way to spend time reconnecting with friends or family whilst enjoying the moment of the slowly setting sun.

Both Sunset Session locations are famous for their striking sunset views with bars boasting beautiful terraces for guests to soak up the mellow heat and glow of the sun as it melts behind the horizon. The event series hosted in these beautiful hotels includes a total of three Cocktails & Create masterclasses, bookable via Eventbrite. The Cocktails & Create series by Bombay Sapphire invites guests to stir their creativity under the guidance of incredible artists and bartenders.

Kicking things off, the two London masterclasses will take place on Wednesday 18th August, hosted by local London illustrator, Joey Yu. Joey’s illustrations capture the essence of people and settings in an outstanding and bold display of bright colours and tones. Joey has recently collaborated with Bombay Sapphire on the award-winning Supermarket project and has hosted a multitude of sell out events for the brand over the last two years. Bombay Sapphire is offering two classes with Joey, 6-7pm or 7-8pm – bookable here.

Host of the Cornwall masterclass on Saturday 11th September is Falmouth born and bred Elly Jahnz. Elly is an illustrator and designer whose style incorporates vibrant colour with illustrations of people and scenery, and is often focused on capturing Cornwall at its finest. Elly’s masterclass at the Polurrian on the Lizard will take place from 6-7pm – bookable here.

Both artists will kick off their workshops with demonstrations, showing guests how to translate the beauty of a sunset memory into a work of art before guiding them in the creation of their own stunning series of postcards using a variety of art materials. Postcards can then be stamped to send to loved ones as a memento from their staycation.

All guests will receive two drinks in the price of their ticket (£12), including a welcome drink of a delicate and balmy Bombay Sapphire Sunset & Tonic. This refreshingly classic cocktail with a twist is perfect for the late afternoon aperitif occasion and is garnished with an orange wheel and star anise for added zest and warmth. In the second half of the session guests will be served a Bombay Sapphire Sunset Buck: Bombay Sapphire Sunset gin paired with ginger ale, fresh ginger, and a squeeze of lime – a cocktail that truly emulates the sensation of the setting sun.

As well as the ticketed Cocktails & Create masterclasses, Bombay Sapphire will be taking over the terrace bars of both venues during the evening hours, with a Sunset Session DJ set to take guests from sunset right through to the hours of the night. From 8pm-11pm, guests are invited to enjoy a bespoke menu of Bombay Sapphire Sunset creative cocktails, curated in celebration of the new Bombay Sapphire Sunset gin that has the addition of three new botanicals – golden turmeric, Indian white cardamom and Spanish mandarin.

These Sessions are open for anyone to book a table via each hotel’s usual booking systems – 12th Knot here and Polurrian on the Lizard here .

For those unable to attend the event series, BOMBAY SAPPHIRE gin will be going live with influencer and drinks aficionado Portia Freeman on Wednesday 15th September at 6pm.

Portia will be joined by Joey Yu for an exclusive Cocktails & Create – Instagram Live edition.

Those that tune in via @Portiaportiaaa or @BombaySapphireUK will see Joey and Portia creating beautiful sunset inspired works of art together and will also enjoy a step-by-step cocktail demo from Portia, creating both the BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Sunset and Tonic and BOMBAY SAPPHIRE Sunset Buck.
