One of Kate Middleton’s commonly worn gemstones, Topaz, has been revealed as the UK’s most popular gemstone of 2024.
According to jewellery experts KIAASH, Topaz, the gemstone associated with wealth, love, friendship, and health, is the top trending gemstone of 2024. Topaz is traditionally believed to attract wealth if worn as a birthstone – good news for all those November babies out there!
Sapphire is the second most popular gemstone of 2024, with a 75% yearly uplift in Pinterest searches. Sapphires are also associated with wisdom, seen as a symbol of power and strength and come in many other colours than just blue.

Associated with wealth and royalty, it’s no wonder many members of the UK royal family are often seen wearing Topaz jewellery in an array of beautiful hues. Think Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, with her lavish blue Topaz chandelier earrings or Queen Camilla’s sophisticated orange Topaz brooch.
Gemstones such as Topaz and Sapphires aren’t just linked with beauty, with Brits putting their hopes into crystals and their associated benefits during times of crisis or hardship. Sapphire’s in particular are known for their healing benefits, by releasing tension and depression, as well as bringing serenity and peace of mind.
According to Google Trends, “healing crystals” increased in popularity throughout 2020 and saw a significant spike in January 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the trend declined after 2021, searches for “healing crystals” have slowly been increasing in 2024.
This can be linked to celebrity influence, as Anne Hathaway, Lucy Hale, Victoria Beckham, and Bella Hadid are just a few celebs who use crystals for their various healing benefits and properties. Singer-songwriter Adele even admitted to holding crystals to help calm her nerves on stage.
A recent study even revealed that more than half of Brits are open to the idea that crystals can help improve their health and well-being while the hashtag #healingcrystals has garnered 336.4 million views on TikTok.
Diamonds are forever!
Diamonds are still a girl’s best friend, with the TikTok hashtag #diamond garnering the most views at 16.9 billion and a 30% annual uplift in searches on Pinterest.
While diamonds will never go out of fashion and are the gemstone of choice when it comes to engagement rings, sapphire-encrusted engagement rings are also rising in popularity. They’re the second most popular gemstone engagement ring, just behind diamond engagement rings according to TikTok, with the hashtag #sapphireengagementring acquiring 69 million views.

Aashna Mehta, founder of Kiaash commented: “Celebrity and royal influence can have a huge impact on the popularity of jewellery and particular gemstones with Topaz being the latest to have an increase in searches. We know diamonds are always a popular choice, especially for engagement rings, but as the popularity of Topaz is rising, we are also seeing gemstone jewellery, in general, become more favoured, which is something we expect to continue as Brits become more unique with their jewellery style.”
