The Denny boys — the five Scottish brothers who stole the nation’s heart with their spontaneous doorstep carolling — are officially kickstarting a brand-new Christmas tradition. Their viral Ring Doorbell performance, which has now reached nearly two million views, has inspired #RingAndSing, a UK-wide campaign encouraging communities to reconnect through the simple joy of carolling.
The original video, filmed on a neighbour’s Ring Video Doorbell, struck a chord with viewers longing for genuine community spirit during the festive season. According to new research commissioned by Ring, 96% of people say carolling has dramatically declined, and the average Brit hasn’t seen carollers at their door in four years. Almost half (44%) think a drop in community engagement is to blame.
Dave Ward, Ring’s UK & International Managing Director, said the boys’ performance was too powerful to ignore:
“These five lads reminded us of the simple joy that comes from showing up at someone’s door and sharing a song. That’s exactly what #RingAndSing is all about — inviting the entire nation to revive this beloved tradition, all while raising money for a great cause.”
What Is #RingAndSing? Carolling for a Cause
The campaign supports Strathcarron Hospice, a charity deeply rooted in the Denny community and already championed by the boys.
Between 8–15 December, anyone across Scotland, the UK or Ireland can join in by recording a Christmas carol on their Ring Video Doorbell and sharing it using the Ring app’s “Share” button or posting it on social media with #RingAndSing.
-
For every shared video, Ring will donate £10 to Strathcarron Hospice
-
The Denny Five will choose their five favourite performances
-
Winners receive a £1,000 Amazon Gift Card and a Ring Video Doorbell for their entire street
Mags McCarthy, CEO of Strathcarron Hospice, called the partnership “an incredible collaboration”:
“This campaign will spread festive cheer while helping provide vital palliative and end-of-life care for families who may be spending their last Christmas together.”
A Nation Ready to Bring Back Carolling
Following the viral clip, almost 63% of people said they wished carolling was more common, while 74% agreed it brings genuine joy to their community.
Dylan Thomson, one of the young performers, added:
“I can’t believe we have been able to give five people a great Christmas through #RingAndSing! Merry Christmas everyone, bye love you!”
Erin Chalmers, whose doorbell captured the moment, said:
“Who’d have thought my Ring Doorbell would bring so much happiness to a nation? Ring are going above and beyond for an amazing cause!”
How to Get Involved
From Monday 8 December to Monday 15 December, the nation is invited to open their doors, lift their voices, and help Ring support Strathcarron Hospice during the festive season.
