The concourse at St Pancras International is home to a new summer installation this June, as The Composer’s Cabin brings layered planting, natural materials, and sound into London’s busiest rail hub. The free, three-week experience is open to all visitors passing through the station, offering a key opportunity to encounter the landscapes of the UK’s peatlands inside one of the most heavily travelled public spaces in the country.
Created by award-winning garden designer Martha Krempel, the immersive feature invites visitors into a wood-clad cabin surrounded by peatland-inspired planting. Guests can sit among mosses, grasses, and houseplants while a Steinway & Sons Spirio self-playing piano fills the space with a gentle, evocative soundscape.
Originally presented at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026, The Composer’s Cabin was designed to draw attention to the ecological importance of peatlands while showcasing their texture and complexity in a physical space. At St Pancras, the installation forms part of the wider sustainability push from London St Pancras Highspeed, which has long supported peatland restoration projects in the UK.
The organisation highlights that rail travel from the station to key European destinations such as Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam produces on average 96% less CO₂ than equivalent flights, positioning the hub as a lower-carbon travel gateway. As Sustainability and Environmental Manager Sam Sage notes, the aim is to use the station’s scale to encourage passengers to pause, engage, and take a wider awareness of peatland conservation with them as they travel.
The Composer’s Cabin pop-up can be found at St Pancras International, London N1C 4QL, from 1st to 21st June 2026. You can find out more about the installation right here.
