TEMI WILKEY’S ACCLAIMED SOLO SHOW ‘MAIN CHARACTER ENERGY’ TOURS NATIONWIDE FROM 6TH OCTOBER 2025

Following its rise from cult debut at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival to a must-see, sold-out hit at London’s Soho Theatre, Main Character Energy now embarks on a major UK autumn tour. Created by and starring Sex Education writer and Forbes 30 Under 30 honouree Temi Wilkey, this genre-busting solo show blends theatre, and high-octane physical comedy into a bold, fourth-wall-shattering spectacle. The tour opens at Bristol Old Vic (6–11 October), before playing The Nest at Chichester Festival Theatre (21–22 November), as part of its inaugural season, and Sheffield Theatres (28–29 November). Tickets on sale now for Bristol and Sheffield, with The Nest following on 31st July 2025.

Directed by Ragevan Vasan and produced by Bobby Harding, Main Character Energy is a gloriously camp, razor-sharp parody of the one-woman play—though don’t tell Temi that. At face value, it’s the autobiographical solo show of a beautiful, supremely talented Black actress determined to take up space. But very quickly, the performance begins to unravel into something altogether more absurd, as theatre tropes collapse around her in a riot of music, physical comedy, and satirical chaos. The result is a high-glam, high-stakes takedown of ego, identity, and the exhausting pressure to perform your worth.

And this is only the beginning. Main Character Energy is the first instalment in a planned trilogy, with a sequel set to premiere in 2026 and a final instalment in 2027. This is your invitation to get in on the ground floor of a truly original theatrical universe—a subversive, star-powered saga that’s rewriting the rules of what a solo show can be.

Temi Wilkey is an award-winning actor and writer from North London. A Cambridge graduate and National Youth Theatre alum, she won the Stage Debut Award for her first play The High Table (Bush Theatre). Her theatre credits include the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre, and Royal Court. On screen, she has written for Sex Education (Netflix), earning an NAACP nomination, and Disney+’s Wedding Season. Founder, co-director and performer in drag king collective Pecs, Temi was named one of Forbes 30 Under 30 and is currently developing new work in the UK and US.

Director Ragevan Vasan is a British Tamil actor and theatre-maker whose work spans stage and screen. He has directed for Ricochet Theatre and developed projects with ThisEgg and the Royal Court. Producer Bobby Harding is a Walsall-born, non-binary independent producer focused on bold, queer-led performance. Their recent credits include Metamorphoses (The Cockpit), Luv Shannon (Seventeen Gallery), and Vermin (Arcola, OFFIE Award). Together, they bring a collaborative, experimental energy to Main Character Energy’s camp and fearless world.

As part of Main Character Energy’s run at Bristol’s Old Vic there will be a BLACK OUT night on Thursday 9th October at 8pm – giving black-identifying audience members a unique experience of the production and a chance to discuss its themes – free from the white gaze.

The post-show discussion will be led by award-winning performance artist, theatre maker and writer Travis Alabanza: Creator and performer of Burgerz (Southbank Centre, Edinburgh Fringe, international tour). Writer of Overflow (Bush Theatre, international stream). Starred in Jubilee (Royal Exchange, Lyric Hammersmith). Co-creator/performer in Sound of the Underground (Royal Court, 2023). Author of None of the Above (Jhalak Prize winner, 2022. Forbes 30 Under 30, Dazed100, Evening Standard 25 Under 25.
