Paris-born, London-based artist Tanis has dropped her brand new single, “Turn Off The News,” — a sharp, self-aware exploration of the messy, funny, and all-too-relatable aftermath of a breakup. The track sees Tanis blend emotional honesty with her trademark wit, creating an electropop anthem that turns heartbreak into empowerment.
Following the release of previous singles “Priority” and “Kid,” which tackled themes of emotional neglect and societal pressures, “Turn Off The News” continues Tanis’ streak of highly relatable songwriting. The track lands on October 17th and is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major streaming platforms.
Honest Lyrics Meet Dreamy Electropop
Built on shimmering synths, driving beats, and soaring vocals, “Turn Off The News” captures the push and pull of letting go. The song pairs nostalgic pop production with biting lyrical confessionals — from “Though I laugh and I smile, don’t tell me you got wild” to “Please stop showing off. Let me have some salvation.”
The verses feel intimate and vulnerable, while the chorus bursts with anthemic energy — a sonic reflection of post-breakup contradictions: yearning one minute, laughing the next.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Tanis shared:
“The song was inspired by my brother, who was complaining about how much amazing content his ex-girlfriend started posting right after they broke up. It made me laugh, but it also made me think about how universal that experience is — so I decided to tell that story.”
A Vibrant Visual to Match
The “Turn Off The News” music video leans into the song’s themes with clever, colourful visuals. Opening with static TVs and text message bubbles, the video evolves into a kaleidoscopic journey that mirrors the chaos of post-relationship life. Tanis showcases her multi-instrumentalist skills throughout — playing both piano and drums — further cementing her as a true creative force.
The Global Sound of Tanis

Born to a French writer-producer and a Singaporean top model, Tanis’ multicultural upbringing shaped her into a global artist fluent in four languages and unbound by genre. Raised across six countries and three continents, she has always resisted easy categorisation — a trait reflected in her borderless sound.
Before her pop career, Tanis was already an accomplished film composer, winning the Elmer Bernstein Award at NYU’s Steinhardt College and a Disney competition to score the feature film Trail of the Panda at just 14. Her credits include award-winning scores for Motel Melati and The Deepest Dance.
“Songwriting uses a different part of my brain,” Tanis explains. “When I’m scoring a film, the visuals lead the music. But when I’m writing a song, I’m creating the world myself — image and emotion.”
A Career on the Rise
With previous releases via Warner France, Tanis’ discography continues to grow with both artistic maturity and international appeal. Her ability to balance introspection and humour makes her one of the most exciting voices in pop right now.
Whether she’s scoring films or writing lyrics about heartbreak, Tanis’ work is a reminder that identity isn’t inherited — it’s created.
“Turn Off The News” is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major platforms.
