18-year-old South-Florida–via-Los-Angeles pop singer-songwriter Szandra Mayer is stepping confidently into the spotlight with the release of her shimmering new single “When You Know”, a delicate, emotional introduction to her forthcoming debut EP. The full project title and artwork are still under wraps, but Mayer promises an intimate collection exploring young womanhood, self-discovery, and the wonderfully messy emotions that come with growing up.
A Coming-of-Age EP Rooted in Honesty
Mayer describes the EP as a time capsule of her teen years — one shaped by confusion, introspection, and the beautiful chaos of becoming yourself.
“This EP is a collection of entries from my teenage girl years, capturing everything I experienced and how it affected me,” she explains. “It explores my confusion, delusions, overthinking, and all the moments that helped me learn more about myself… these are experiences many other young girls can relate to.”
With its diaristic lyrics and vibrant pop production, the upcoming EP aims to make young women feel seen, heard, and understood.
“When You Know”: A Sparkling First Taste
The lead single “When You Know” captures a moment of emotional clarity, tracing the delicate line between longing and youthful romantic awe.
“‘When You Know’ is really special to me because it was one of the first times I could fully translate my emotions into a song,” Mayer shares. “I wrote it by myself on piano in my bedroom — it felt the most like me.”
A Dreamy Visual Shot in Hungary
The song’s official lyric video transports fans to a serene winery town in Hungary, pairing Mayer’s soft vocals with whimsical, fairytale-like visuals.
“Filming the visualizer was such a fun experience… I even got to wear a tiny crown and daydream out the window,” she says. “It perfectly captures the dreamy, bittersweet feeling of teenage love.”
The soft-focus aesthetic reinforces a signature theme in Mayer’s work — cinematic, girly pop with emotional richness.
Crafting Her Sound with Producer Áron
Mayer credits her producer Áron as a pivotal influence in shaping the EP’s warm, intimate sound.
“Working with Áron was such a new and inspiring experience. Watching the song grow from a simple voice memo into a finished track was incredibly rewarding.”
The partnership helped evolve her voice from bedroom demos into fully realised pop soundscapes.
