Altitude Films is set to release the biblical horror The Carpenter’s Son in UK and Irish cinemas on 21 November 2025 — a dark and mesmerizing reimagining of faith, temptation, and the supernatural.
Set in Roman-era Egypt, the film follows a carpenter, his wife, and their teenage son as their faith is tested by forces beyond comprehension. Joseph (Nicolas Cage), Mary (FKA twigs), and Jesus (Noah Jupe) have long lived under the shadow of persecution. But when they stop in a small village, their fragile peace is shattered as a mysterious young girl (Isla Johnston, The Queen’s Gambit) draws Jesus into a world of forbidden temptation. What begins as curiosity soon spirals into a terrifying spiritual confrontation — one that could shake the foundations of their belief.

A Visceral Vision of Faith and Fear
Directed and written by Lotfy Nathan (12 O’Clock Boys, Harka), The Carpenter’s Son merges biblical lore with unnerving horror. Drawing from his Coptic Christian upbringing and the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, Nathan explores an unrecorded chapter in the life of Jesus — his lost boyhood during exile. The result is a haunting meditation on divine power, evil, and the mystery of faith itself.
Nathan explains:
“While some may categorise The Carpenter’s Son as horror or supernatural thriller, for me, genre is just a palette — a way to depict a time before science, when unseen forces shaped every moment.” He continues, “To look unflinchingly at evil is, paradoxically, to better understand the necessity of the good. That’s the spirit in which I made The Carpenter’s Son.”
A Stellar Cast and Visual Revelation
Alongside Cage and FKA twigs, the film stars Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place, Honey Boy), Souheila Yacoub (Dune: Part Two), and Isla Johnston. Expect striking visuals, unshakeable imagery, and a chilling soundscape that blurs the line between sacred and profane — a tone reminiscent of genre hits like The Witch and Midsommar.
The Carpenter’s Son: Release and Expectations
With its fusion of mythology, faith, and horror, The Carpenter’s Son promises to be one of the most talked-about films of the year. Its blend of spiritual storytelling and psychological terror marks another bold turn for both Cage and twigs — who continues to expand her creative universe across music and film.
The Carpenter’s Son arrives in UK and Irish cinemas on 21 November 2025 via Altitude Films.
