From November through the first week of January, the iconic Battersea Power Station transforms into one of London’s most enchanting festive destinations, with Glide, its very own ice skating experience, takes centre stage. Draped with bespoke Christmas decorations, the riverside landmark offers a dazzling array of seasonal activities, over 50 food and drink outlets, and a magical wonderland of retail experiences. With its captivating atmosphere and myriad attractions, no holiday season is complete without a visit to celebrate the magic of Christmas in true London style.
Battersea Power Station will sparkle in its unique way, with its special Christmas decorations inspired by its iconic Art Deco architecture. Visitors can explore over 150 trees, including a towering 40ft tree in Malaysia Square, and enjoy oversized decorations like a giant bauble installation and a trail of candy canes on Electric Boulevard for a photo opportunity paradise.
Arguably the favourite festive fixture at Battersea Power Station, Boots presents Glide is London’s only riverside ice rink, offering guests the chance to skate beneath the glow of the Grade II listed landmark. Adjacent is The Glass House, the ideal hub to soak up the festive atmosphere with hot chocolate (or something stronger), and relax with stunning views of the rink, river, and landmark. Tickets start from just £16 (or £10.50 for under-12s), with private igloos available for hire from £17.50 per person.
For those who prefer to stay off the ice, Lift 109 remains open to provide a unique opportunity to ascend to the top of the Power Station’s north-west chimney, where visitors can enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of the capital’s Christmas lights.
There is no shortage of festive activities at Battersea Power Station this season. Visitors can enjoy Christmas classics or the latest holiday films at its cinema, shop from over 150 British and international brands (Zara, Jo Malone, Lego, and Mulberry being just some of the highlights), or dine at one of more than 50 restaurants and bars, including Dishoom, Arcade Food Hall, and Searcy’s Champagne Bar to inject glamour into the season.
Creative enthusiasts can join in adult arts and crafts activities, such as candle painting, calligraphy, and table centrepiece workshops with Moyses Stevens. There’s also a variety of Christmas markets, including The King’s Trust Market, Salad Days Market, and the Curated Makers Christmas Market for unique handcrafted gifts.
For the younger explorers, Santa’s School for Elves lands at Battersea Power Station this year to introduce all budding elves to Santa Claus himself. With workshops including Elf & Fitness and Arts & Elfy Crafts, the little ones will learn all the skills they need to become an official helper – and receive an official Elf hat along with their Elf Academy certificate to mark their achievements!
Located in Zone 1 on the riverside, Battersea Power Station is accessible via the Battersea Power Station Underground station, just 15 minutes from the West End and the City. Visitors can also reach the site via the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, with direct transfers from Embankment in 15 minutes, Blackfriars in 20, Putney in 30, and Canary Wharf in 40. With bus, bike, car, and train options also all leading to the London landmark, Battersea Power Station makes for the perfect easy destination for a memorable day out.
