Five Games to Watch in NFL Week Four

With multiple division games, and a return to London, there are plenty of exciting matchups to pay attention to in week four of the NFL. However, some games have more weight than others as there are already perfect records and division leads on the line.

Here are five games this week with a little more importance to them than others:

  1. Lions vs. Packers

Two of the oldest teams in the league’s history will face off Thursday night, with the attempt of earning the top spot in their division. The two sides are currently tied for that top spot and with the current division standings, it may be one of them who ends the season on top. As each team looks for early divisional momentum, the Packers will also look to earn some revenge.

After losing to the Lions in their final regular season game last year, also Aaron Rodgers last game as a Packer, the team was eliminated from the playoff picture for the first time since 2018. The Packers have also lost three straight meetings amongst the teams, and will be looking to prove why it is them who leads in all-time wins over the other side. The Lions entered this season with loads of confidence, partially due to winning their final game of last season over Green Bay. They will be looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016, and if that is the case, it will be much to the dismay of the Packers.

A new quarterback in Jordan Love on Green Bay’s side has given the team a new sense of energy. Love has been performing well, and stands 13th overall in passer ratings. With a young team, the Packers are hoping for a bright future, and a win over the Lions would help ensure this. In a game that will be a battle for supremacy, who will prevail on top?

    2.  Falcons vs. Jaguars

The Falcons and Jaguars will meet in the NFL’s return to London at Wembley Stadium this Sunday, continuing the long lasting tradition. Of course, for those in America, this may mean the challenge of waking up earlier to watch football, but each side is sure to make it worth the while.  After beginning the season so well, the Falcons and their fans are disappointed after suffering a week three loss, and will look to get back into shape.

On the other side stands the Jaguars, who would like their best to return to an even record. The Jaguars also have yet to beat the Falcons since 2007, as they have lost the last four matchups. The Falcons are currently tied for first in the NFC south with both the Saints and Buccaneers, as it is proving to be a tough division so far. A win would ensure they remain in the playoff competition, while a loss may drag them down to the depths of the division.

   3. Dolphins vs. Bills

With each side currently in the argument for top five best teams in the league, it’s hard to imagine a matchup like this without plenty of offense. The Dolphins are coming off their largest win in franchise history, after scoring 70 points against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills have been red hot ever since their week one loss, scoring 75 points in their last two games. Each team possesses a quarterback who will still be talked about in 10 years, and who is determined to win a Lombardi sometime throughout their career. The Dolphins also want to continue down their path of recognition, and what better way of doing so than having a chance to be the last undefeated team in the league.

While the Dolphins will try to keep a perfect record, the Bills will try to keep a winning record and continue their dominance throughout the league as of late. Both of these teams have been marked as early Super Bowl contenders, and it would come as a surprise to no one if we are seeing this same matchup in the playoffs come four months time.

    4. Ravens vs. Browns

The Ravens are coming off an unexpected loss to the Colts in week three, while the Browns want to continue the early momentum they have gained from their performances this season. Not to mention, these teams are also division rivals who are sure to provide entertainment whenever in the same building. With two widely talked quarterbacks facing off in Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson, each one likes to run as much as they do pass.

A highly offensive game is anticipated between these two sides where adjustments to their playstyle will surely be made throughout. Each team is currently tied with the Steelers for first place in the division, and the winner of this matchup will earn a leg up over the other in the standings.

In recent years, the Ravens have been a team where people are never sure how they’re going to perform, and Jackson and his side will look to erase those doubts Sunday. Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson wants to build a new name for himself in his first full season as Browns quarterback. A win against the Ravens would help his and his teams’ cause immensely.

    5. Commanders vs. Eagles

As the Commanders look to bounce back from the punishment handed to them on behalf of the Bills, the Eagles are another of the three teams in the league looking to keep their perfect record in shape. As these division rivals have plenty of past, with Washington currently lead the all time series 89-82, each team is looking to prove something this season.

Philadelphia wants to show the league they are capable of making it back to the Super Bowl and earning the redemption shot they feel they deserve. That being said, there is an equally hungry team standing in their way. They may have been dominated in week three, but Washington will not stand down lightly, as they attempt to turn their team around from the blunders of its past once and for all.

If Washington can pull off a victory they will be one step closer to becoming a legitimate team, or they could face embarrassment for the second week in a row and begin to hinder the minds of fans. If the Eagles win, they have as much a chance as the Dolphins and 49ers in becoming the final team remaining to have a perfect record, and take early favorites for the Lombardi trophy this season.
