A custom sneaker brand designed for the England squad and high-end chocolate store set up by a descendant of the original Cadbury founder, will be among the first new shops to open on Oxford Street as part of a landmark project to rejuvenate the iconic shopping area.
CANVVS will open its doors in the coming months as part of a ground-breaking campaign to rejuvenate the world-famous destination.
The brand’s unique sneakers have been worn by the likes of Ed Sheeran, the Lionesses following their inspiring Euro 2022 win, and the England squad. Southgate, Harry Kane and Phil Foden also wore CANVVS customs during the 2022 World Cup.
The new store is one of four new shops set to transform the central London retail area as part of the Meanwhile On project from Westminster City Council. The scheme was set up to provide prime location shops for innovative brands at reduced rent using both vacant spaces and those formerly occupied by low quality businesses and candy stores.
Since 2021, the number of candy stores and souvenir shops has dropped by a fifth, while the number of vacant premises has fallen by 40%. Another new arrival to the area will be sustainable luxury chocolate brand Love Cocoa, set up by a descendant of the original Cadbury founder.
James Cadbury, the world-famous chocolatier’s great-great-great-grandson, built his business from scratch – independent of his family – to make modern, luxury chocolate in an ethical and sustainable way.
Luxury linen brand Kindred of Ireland has opened on nearby South Molton Street, whilst British knitwear label Hades is coming soon.
