Christmas might be the season of sparkle, but according to new research from British Gas, parents across the UK are feeling more pressure than ever to keep the magic alive. A huge 85% of children now query how Santa gets into modern homes, with many worried about security systems getting in the way of his festive visit.
The study revealed that one in four kids is anxious about not having a chimney at all, while 33% believe alarms and high-tech security could stop Santa entirely. These growing concerns have left parents scrambling for ways to protect the Christmas spirit.
Parents Under Pressure to Preserve the Christmas Magic
The festive season isn’t all mulled wine and fairy lights for grown-ups. According to the research:
-
Two thirds of parents say their stress peaks at Christmas.
-
98% feel pressure to maintain Santa’s magic.
-
82% work hard to deliver a perfect festive season.
Parents are going above and beyond:
-
79% say they create special festive “setups” (think snowy boot prints and magic keys).
-
73% now use tech to keep their children believing.
British Gas Unwraps Its New “Same Day Santa Service”
This year, British Gas is helping ease the pressure with the launch of its Same Day Santa Service — a heartwarming initiative inspired by the company’s nationwide same-day engineer callouts.
British Gas engineers already make thousands of urgent visits to fix heating and hot water issues for customers who get in touch before 11am. Now, the brand is sprinkling extra magic onto those journeys.
Given that:
-
24% of families experience heating breakdowns over Christmas,
-
10% lose hot water, and
-
nearly a fifth face electrical issues,
the demand for reliable home services is higher than ever.
A massive 99% of parents surveyed said dependable home support is essential for a smooth Christmas.
Santa Hits the Road With British Gas
In a first-of-its-kind festive collaboration, Santas will be joining engineers in British Gas vans, surprising families along their routes with doorstep visits.
Parents can reach out directly to the British Gas team, and a select number of families will receive a call from the British Gas Santa Squad. Each visit includes:
-
A Santa Gift Box,
-
A Santa Kit for recreating magical moments inside the home,
-
A memorable visit to keep the belief alive.
Hannah Folley, a British Gas engineer, said:
“Christmas should feel magical, not stressful. Parents are under huge pressure, from keeping homes running to keeping the excitement alive for their children. The Same Day Santa Service is our way of spreading a little extra joy.”
Santa himself added:
“Lots of children are worried about chimneys, alarms and locked doors these days, but nothing stops Santa. With help from my friends at British Gas, I’ll be popping up on doorsteps across the UK to keep the Christmas magic shining bright.”
