The exhibition emphasizes BIRKENSTOCK’s enduring cultural impact, spanning over two and a half centuries in the rich tradition of shoemaking.
From 5th to 8th September, guests will be able to step through a visual journey held at BIRKENSTOCK’s cultural hub at Dray Walk. The exhibition not only honors BIRKENSTOCK’s deep-rooted tradition but also celebrates its rich design heritage and highlights its significant cultural impact. A series of books, created in collaboration with some of the world’s most respected designers, photographers, and book printers, showcases how BIRKENSTOCK has influenced subcultures, inspired leading designers, and resonated with individuals globally for decades.
The exhibition will showcase never-before-seen archive materials from The Book of BIRKENSTOCK, offering a rare glimpse into the brand’s storied history. Highlights include original advertisements, vintage photos, and marketing materials sourced from private estates and public archives. The retrospective will also feature iconic brand campaigns and trend-defining fashion editorials. Henry Leutwyler captures the treasures from BIRKENSTOCK’s archives and production processes, while Werner Bartsch takes viewers on a visual journey through the brand’s production sites in Germany, highlighting the people and places that define BIRKENSTOCK today. Adding a subversive edge, Juergen Teller’s Golborne Road series portrays the authentic characters of Notting Hill, all sporting BIRKENSTOCK footwear.
