A REMINDER TO KEEP DREAMING: TANIS SHARES HER INSIGHT ON NEW SINGLE ‘KID’

Born on three continents, fluent in four languages, and raised between cultures, Tanis is the embodiment of the modern global artist. Raised everywhere from the Caribbean to Asia to Europe – her music, like her life, crosses boundaries and blends traditions.

In her brand new single ‘Kid’, she is honest and open about the complexities of adult life and the longing to relive childhood. The wish to go back to a time – even for a moment – where there was less to worry about, less responsibilities, and less judgement. Tanis showcases just how self aware she is with observational and insightful lyrics on ‘Kid’, she sings: ‘It used to be cute when I was foolish, but no one forgives my actions now.’

‘Kid’ is a nostalgic pop masterpiece with powerful and striking visuals that echo the sentiment of the song. The music video, captured by defining photographer Paul Cruz, is simple yet wonderfully effective. Tanis begins singing to the camera with a backdrop behind her – she eventually tears down this backdrop and enters a new space – filled with giant teddy bears and balloons, a symbolic reference of childhood and essentially going back in time. The teddy bears were originally planned to be a lot smaller than the ones seen in the final take but the wrong teddy bears came and were massive. The team were flexible, deciding to work with this, and as a result created visuals that are even more eye-catching, innovative and creative.

There is also a stunning visualiser to go with the music video and song, shot by Roisino – an Irish born London based video and photo director with her work known for its vibrant visceral energy and striking visual storytelling. Rosino has worked with many high profile clients including Sony, Atlantic Records, Vogue and Wonderland.

There are no distractions in this intimate visualiser – just Tanis’ incredible, emotive performance of the song, showcasing her talent not only as a musician but also as a performer and artist. The stunning deep purple backdrop works so well aesthetically and there is a juxtaposition between the sophistication that Tanis is portraying and the longing to go back to being a kid, even for a moment. The image she is portraying now is perhaps everything her younger self would have wanted to be, she sings: ‘When I was young, wished I was older, seemed like fun from the other side’. Tanis poses the question that maybe the grass seems greener and we always want what is out of reach.

The cinematic production on ‘Kid’ blends beautifully with Tanis’ voice – a clear and crisp delivery filled with texture and emotion. The polished production almost has a sense of urgency with an upbeat tempo and dynamic rhythms, perhaps echoing the sentiment of time moving too fast and the wish for it to slow down. ‘Kid’ is super catchy with an anthemic pop chorus and sweeping melodic hooks. Balancing pop with heartfelt and profound lyricism, ‘Kid’ captures the relatable dilemmas through a rich tapestry of sound, melding silky pop with textured harmonies and emotional depth. It’s a song that resonates universally, yet remains deeply personal.

Following the success of her previous singles ‘Toujours Là’, which gained national radio play and video features on MTV Hits and CStar, and ‘Priority’, ‘Kid’ marks the next step on her artist journey. With more releases slated throughout the year, Tanis continues to captivate audiences around the world.

About Tanis:

Born to a French writer-producer and a Singaporean top model, Tanis has forged her own artistic path through music. A classically trained composer and multi-instrumentalist, she honed her craft at NYU’s prestigious Steinhardt College, earning the Elmer Bernstein Award for her work in film composition. Her multicultural upbringing, spanning six countries across three continents, continues to shape her distinctive, borderless sound.

Tanis began composing classical music at a young age, drawn to film scoring after watching Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) conduct live. She went on to occupy her own space on a credits roll, winning a Disney competition for young composers to score a Chinese feature film (Trail of the Panda), at age 14. Today, she has an award-winning screen composition career to her name (Motel Melati, The Deepest Dance).

Tanis speaks on the process of songwriting versus film scoring: “Songwriting uses a different part of my brain. I love doing them both. I wouldn’t switch one for the other. When I am scoring a film, the images guide me to create the sound to bring out the emotions of the film. When I am writing my lyrics and creating the melody, I form the image and emotion.”

Tanis’ diverse artistic endeavors extend beyond her solo work. She has scored global productions in the US, UK, France, Japan, and Singapore, and recently earned a Broadcast Production Award for her composition ‘Wildcard’. Fluent in four languages and deeply committed to humanitarian causes, Tanis is not only an artist to watch, but a global citizen with a powerful voice.

The Paris-born, London-based artist already has an impressive discography to date. Tanis released her debut single ‘Ce n’est pas moi’ in 2015, released via Warner France, where the song gained a lot of traction. Fast forward to 2025 and Tanis feels like a songwriter at her most lucid, diarising life’s changing tides however they present, from feeling overlooked in a relationship on ‘Priority’ or exploring society’s obsession with boxing us in by age through ‘Kid’. Biographical or drawn from the experiences of those around her, the relatability on every track is apparent, the kind that’s long powered pop’s most accomplished storytellers before her.

Stream ‘Kid’ now on Spotify, Apple Music, and all major platforms.
