Last week we were lucky enough to get to sample some of the delicious menu Wahaca offers. We visited the Oxford Street branch which has a great chilled vibe; the decor includes metal fencing and vibrant, mismatched furnishings to give a real feel of Mexico – despite looking out of the window to rain and storms!
Cozy and warm inside, our waitress Marilia got our appetites ready with some fully-loaded tortillas and a couple of passion fruit mojitos while we struggled to narrow our choices to an amount more suitable for two people, rather than six.
When we were ready to begin the main event, we got a steady stream of delicious Mexican street food including;
- Slow-cooked beef tacos with mild spices, served with black beans
- Grilled chicken club quesadillas with avocado, lettuce, melted cheese & chipotle mayo
- Sweet romano pepper filled with Riverford Organic squash, herb rice & olives with ancho relish & a cashew nut mole
- Slow-cooked pork pibil burrito with pink pickled onions
- Bavette steak served medium rare with green rice, ancho relish & fresh slaw
- Crispy fried sweet potato chunks tossed in smokey caramelised garlic mojo de ajo
All were delicious and authentic but a real shout out goes to the stuffed pepper (thanks Marilia for recommending!) and the burrito.
We even managed to squeeze in some desserts, before rolling back to the office;
- Churros with a rich chocolate sauce or dulce de leche caramel
- Chocolate & pecan brownie with salted caramel ice cream & dulce de leche sauce
Wahaca’s success is completely justified and they have maintained their vision to bring good quality, authentic Mexican street food to London. I have always enjoyed eating at Wachaca and this trip was no different – I am looking forward to the next time already!
