Where to go now: Bring a Ray of Mexican Sunshine to Winter with Wahaca

Day of the Dead celebrations, tequila tastings, and a bold new winter menu.

As the nights draw in, Wahaca is turning up the heat with a burst of Mexican flavour and fiesta spirit this winter. From vibrant Día de los Muertos celebrations to a brand new Tequila Experience and a flavour-packed Winter Menu, the restaurant group is serving up the perfect antidote to the seasonal chill across its sites in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Brighton.

Celebrate Día de los Muertos – Mexican Style

One of Mexico’s most iconic traditions, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), comes alive at Wahaca this October and November. Each restaurant will be decked out with striking decorations and colourful altars inspired by traditional ofrendas—the vivid home displays that honour loved ones who have passed.

To toast the occasion, guests can sip on a limited-edition Blood Orange & Hibiscus Margarita (£9.95), a perfectly balanced mix of fresh lime, aquafaba and blanco tequila, shaken with sweetness and spice in every glass.

A Taste of Tequila: New Wahaca Experience

Adding even more spirit to the season, Wahaca’s new Tequila Experience (£14.95) invites guests to discover the depth of Mexico’s most celebrated drink. The curated tasting includes three tequilas—blanco, reposado and añejo—each paired with complementary flavours to bring out their unique notes. Guided tasting cards walk guests through the experience, making it both delicious and educational.

One Night Only: Day of the Dead Supper Club

For a night to remember, Wahaca’s Shoreditch restaurant will host a special Supper Club on 30th October, led by co-founder Thomasina Miers in collaboration with online food marketplace DELLI.

This candlelit celebration of remembrance will feature dishes “brought back from the dead” — a revival of some of Wahaca’s most-loved past creations. Expect live DJ sets, face painting, and a goodie bag to take home. Tickets are £65, including a welcome cocktail on arrival.

Winter Warmers: Wahaca’s New Menu

Alongside the festivities, Wahaca’s new Winter Menu celebrates the season’s best ingredients with comforting Mexican flair.

  • Butter Bean & Confit Garlic Dip (£6.50–£6.95) – a silky blend of garlic, olive oil, rosemary and butter beans from Bold Bean Co, finished with jalapeño oil or Trealy Farm sobrasada.

  • Roast Ancho Mushroom Tacos (£7.50) – marinated mushrooms with umami depth, white bean allioli, jalapeño mayo and salsa macha.

  • Corn, Bean & Feta Tostadas (£6.50) – layers of smoky frijoles, zesty lime, feta and salsa macha for a satisfying crunch.

  • Sautéed Guajillo Prawns (£8.95) – smoky and rich with chipotle, guajillo chillies, and ajillo oil, served gringa-style with warm tortillas and avocado.

  • Roast Butternut Squash (£7.50) – sweet Riverford Organic squash on a spiced cashew mole, topped with salsa macha and herbs.

To finish, indulge in:

  • Chocolate Mole Cake (£7.50) – rich, spiced, and dusted with cinnamon and ancho chilli, served with tequila cream.

  • Frozen Flight (£9.95) – a trio of grown-up scoops: vanilla with Cazcabel coffee tequila, lime sorbet with Gran Centenario tequila, and mango sorbet dusted with Tajín.

A Word from Wahaca’s Co-Founder

“I’ve always been fascinated by the colour and energy of Mexican culture — it’s so full of life, creativity and community,” says Thomasina Miers. “Day of the Dead is particularly magical, inviting us to celebrate memories of loved ones through food, music and connection. We love bringing that joy to Wahaca every autumn — it’s the perfect way to brighten the darker months.”

Wahaca’s Day of the Dead celebrations run throughout October and November across its UK locations. For tickets to the Shoreditch Supper Club and full menu details, visit wahaca.co.uk.
