Tequila is truly having a moment. The agave distillate has been on the rise as one of the fastest-growing spirits categories for some years now with drinkers increasingly appreciating its premium quality and high mixability in cocktails.
Lockdown has only driven its popularity further: in the UK, according to a report from British department store John Lewis and supermarket Waitrose, Tequila sales have risen 175% since lockdown measures were enforced in March with PATRÓN, the world’s first ultra-premium Tequila, selling out at Waitrose. With the at home cocktail hour making a comeback during lockdown, Bacardi research showed that the Tequila hero cocktail Margarita was the third most popular made-at-home drink over this time.
While the Margarita is an all-time favourite, Tequila owes its much overdue celebrity status to the variety of cocktails and occasions it caters for. Last year, PATRÓN conducted a research with OnePoll and results revealed that more than half of British drinkers are more likely to enjoy a tequila cocktail over a tequila shot. Plus, over 65% of drinkers enjoy tequila cocktails on a night out, demonstrating that the tide is turning and there has never been a better time to celebrate Tequila.
