What to drink now: Margarita of the Year with Patrón

Patrón has just launched their 2019 Margarita of the Year campaign which challenges 8 fantastic bartenders from 8 different cities across the world to develop their own unique twist on the perfect Patrón Margarita, across the 3 month campaign. The public will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite recipe once a day until the end of April, just in time for Cinco de Mayo, where the one recipe will be crowned Margarita of the Year. Here are our favourites…

 

Margarita Amore

Recipe

  • 45ml Patrón Reposado
  • 15ml Patrón Citronge Orange 30ml Apple juice
  • 15ml Fresh lime juice
  • 15ml Valentina-passionfruit syrup*
  • Fresh chilli pepper for garnish

*Valentina-passionfruit fruit syrup: combine two parts passionfruit syrup to one-part Valentina hot sauce and stir to combine. Store refrigerated.

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to chill.
  2. Strain into a chilled margarita glass. 3. Garnish with a small chilli pepper.

Golden Hour Margarita

Recipe

  • 45ml Patrón Reposado
  • 15ml Patrón Citronge Orange
  • 30ml Fresh Pineapple juice
  • 15ml Fresh lime juice
    7ml Tumeric agave syrup*
  • Salt/turmeric/chilli pepper rim
  • Pineapple wedge for garnish

*Tumeric agave syrup: 2 cups agave, 1 cup water, 2 tablespoons turmeric powder: Add agave, water and turmeric to a saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently to incorporate the turmeric. Let cool and strain into a sealable bottle.

Method

This drink can be shaken and served on the rocks or frozen.

  1. Rim a rocks glass with a mixture of equal parts salt, turmeric and chilli pepper.
  2. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker or blender to combine.
  3. Pour into a rocks glass (filled with ice if you used a shaker).
  4. Garnish with a pineapple wedge.

Dynasty Margarita

Recipe

  • 45ml Patrón Silver
  • 15ml Patrón Citronge Orange 15ml oz St-Germain
  • 15ml Fresh lime juice
  • 7ml Ginger syrup, such as Liber & Co. 7ml Lychee syrup*
  • Grapefruit salt rim**
  • Lime twist for garnish

*Lychee syrup: empty a can of peeled/pitted lychees into a blender. Blend until completely liquified, then strain through a mesh strainer to remove solids.

Method

  1. Rim a rocks glass with grapefruit salt.
  2. Combine liquid ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake to chill.
  3. Strain onto fresh ice in a rocks glass.
  4. Garnish with a lime twist.
