Ah, phones. We all need them and we all have conflicting opinions on which one is the best buy. No matter what, the latest phone tech developments will always take up the comment section. But, we thought that with 2019 coming to an end, we’d go through our top phones that we’ve fallen in love with all year.
BEST Overall SMART PHONE: iPHONE 11 Pro
With everyone taking sides on the usual Android vs iOS debate, we’re happy to say that we adore both in different ways… but the iPhone 11 Pro packed that extra punch that we just couldn’t ignore this year. The battery life of this phone remains unbeatable, with up to 4 more glorious hours of battery and up to 50% battery life from just half an hour of charge… what else is there to say but wow! From the incredible Night Mode that turns on automatically so you’re not stuck fiddling around with settings in the middle of the party, to it’s new and improved 3 cameras – it’s hard to find a flaw this time. We had a blast testing out the Ultra Wide camera with 13mm focal length, which made it almost impossible for anyone be left out of our group snaps. But it’s not all about the pics- if you’re aspiring to be the next Michael Bay in 2020 we encourage you to pick up an iPhone 11 Pro as it makes capturing the perfect moment on 4K easy as pie! Fancy being that little bit more creative? Trying the iPhone 11 Pro’s Portrait Mode should definitely be on your agenda, as it can turn that average selfie into a piece of art worthy of the Louvre in seconds. We know it’s not all just about the camera; the iPhone 11 Pro has the fastest CPU in a smartphone to date making it’s performance a whole 20% faster than it’s other competitors whilst also using 30% less power. If your heart belongs to the wonderful world of gaming fear not, the iPhone 11 Pro has the fastest GPU that also uses 40% less power, to make all those amazing high performance moments last that extra bit longer. It’s sleek and water-resistant design makes it very easy on the eyes and the glass front and back makes it feel special with every touch. BEST PHONE ON A BUDGET: GOOGLE PIXEL 3A
Not everyone can throw near £1k on a new phone, and for those who want a quality phone for a fraction of the price the Google Pixel 3a will be your new best friend. Now the most attractive feature of any Google Pixel is the unlimited storage space, we know it sounds like a lie but we promise it’s not! Upload and keep all your hot snaps and vids with Google Photos for free, so no annoying secret storage charges! You’ve probably used a form of phone assistant before but nothing compares to Google Assistant that is all ready for use as soon as you turn your Pixel 3a on! You can teach Google Assistant more about you and as it learns it can send you reminders, set alarms and even access files or photos by just giving the sides a bit of a squeeze. The camera is always one of the first things to invest in when looking at a new phone, and the Pixel 3a has one of the top Night Sight features on android, with additional brilliant photo editing features such as the Depth Editor which really let your pics pop with colour! We could never forget to mention the outstanding battery life the Pixel 3a has; lasting a full 30 hours with options to reduce power on unused apps! Plus, the fast-charging option is always very handy when in a hurry.
BEST PHONE Design: GALAXY NOTE 10
We know you’re never meant to judge a book by it’s cover, but sometimes it’s a bit hard not too when something is so stunning. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 has to be one of the prettiest phones we’ve laid eyes on and for those who prioritise style, this may be the phone for you. With it’s glossy and gleaming mirror effect metal back to it’s edge to edge screen with a small notch up top, it’s easy to fall in love with Samsung’s smooth design. There’s nothing worse than a clunky phone taking up bag and pocket space, but with the Galaxy Note 10’s 7.9mm width, there’s no worry unnecessary weight weighing you down! Even though we thought this phone was the most attractive on the outside, it’s also about what it’s got on there inside that contributes to the phone’s overall beauty! With a 7nm processor and 8GB ram and 12GB on the Note 10 Plus it’s easy and fast to use as well as visually appealing.
BEST CAMERA: PIXEL 4
If you’re like the most of us, we pretend to know about all of the internal jargon that makes phone’s actually work, but all you care about is which phone can capture your 3am group selfies the best. We thought long and hard about this and we had to say that the Google Pixel 4 won this round. If you want photographs that look professional but you really took it with one hand, this is the phone for you. From great Night Sight shots, shots without flash and focus features to make your photos pop, it’s hard to ignore Google’s efforts in making sure all our photographic needs were taken care of. The Super Res Zoom enables powerful zooming in from distances, and the Frequent Faces feature actually learns those who you capture the most and makes sure to get the moments without blinks and blurs. It also shares the same limitless space feature with Google Photos, so there is always space for multiple angles. You can also adjust exposure before capturing the perfect image full of those intense colours we just adore! The Pixel 4 is available in 3 colours, our favourite is “Oh So Orange” which really got our creative juices stirring!
