13) Skull & Bones

On June 17th 2017, Ubisoft announced at E3 2017, an all-new, pirate action-adventure game giving an experience which focuses mainly on naval combat across the ocean featuring single-player and multiplayer modes. This is brought to you from the creators of popular series including:

  • Tom Clancy’s series
  • Far Cry series
  • Watch Dog series
  • The Crew series
  • South Park: The Video Game series
  • Assassin’s Creed series

At E3 2018, Ubisoft’s conference gave us a better big look at the gameplay; the game will be set in the Indian Ocean, after the British Empire banned piracy in the Caribbean Ocean. From here, you’ll sail the Indian Ocean, raiding trade ships, stamping out rival pirate captains and finally having the ability to manipulate the game to bypass the pirate hunters. Player’s interaction with other players will matter as you will have the choice to draw your sword and brawl it out or team up with others and seek treasure in the evolving world. In the game there will be ‘Fortunes’ that will reveal changes in factions, weather and trade routes. Rewarding heists will widen extra resources and reputation. Nonetheless, power comes at a price and as your reputation and wealth grow you’ll consistently become a target for other pirates. It’s at this point in this game that it might become extremely dangerous to sail alone and you’ll need to start expanding a fleet of ships as well as constructing and ruining alliances with other pirate captains.

There has been no official release date for ‘Skull & Bones’ but its planned to be released some time during 2019.

4) Ghost of Tsushima

On October 30th 2017, Sucker Punch Productions announced a tremendous and enthusiastic action-adventure set in the world of old-fashioned and futuristic Japan but gameplay footage was shown in E3 2018. From the creators of memorable PlayStation exclusive series ‘Infamous’, You play as a samurai, exploring an open-world and engaging in missions. Stealth will play a part in the game as well as some fairly brutal melee combat, tense and tough one-on-one duels which rely on you not withdraw until the exact moment to strike an attack. The one-on-one fight gives us a best idea of the game’s combat, which seems to place a heavy emphasis on dodging your enemies attacks.

The campaign has a very interesting story with the main character ‘Jin’, a man raised with the art of samurai who must defend his island from a Mongolian invasion. However, all of Jin’s masters have been slain during the conflict, due to the actions of the Mongolians not conforming to the rules of samurai, leading Jin to question everything he has been taught and follow his samurai way.

Sucker Punch Productions has always and consistently delivered excellent levelling mechanises and well-paced unlocking of new abilities and this new and exciting development looks like a great, excessive and exceptional game to play.
