Verge’s Artist of the Week: Selena Gomez

Today, our Artist of the Week not only brings us an amazing new album but an intense message of empowerment as she takes back her life telling her own side of the story. We are talking about none other than the fabulous Selena Gomez and her second solo album, Revival, out today.

This star’s life has been broadcasted throughout the world since she started acting at age 7. We have come to love her first from her role on childhood favorite Wizards of Waverly Place and into her adult life and current music career. Always generating headlines through her love life with the just as famous jbeibs and her evolution of sex appeal, she is now going on a year of being single and having finally grown into herself and what she believes in speaking out and letting the world know what she has to say.

Having gone through a break-up, ultimate media exposure, changes to her family, and, what has been recently revealed in her Billboard feature, a lupus diagnosis, she has declared that she is done sitting back and letting the media and anti-fans get to her. Revival marks her finally splitting from the Disney world, excommunicating herself from her well-known “good girl” image and entering into the next chapter of her life, rightfully still untitled. She stated in Billboard, “This is my time. I’ve deserved this. I earned it. This is all me.”

For Revival Gomez worked with Dreamlab and LA-based producer Ruffian on her new label Interscope. This album, equipped with a nearly nude cover of Selena, will include her singles “Good For You” featuring rapper A$AP Rocky, “Same Old Love”, and her most recent drop “Me & The Rhythm” as well as 11 other tracks. “I dive into the future, but I’m blinded by the sun. I’m reborn in every moment, so who knows what I’ll become” she so eloquently states at the begging of the first track and the music moves through her thoughts on love and self from there.

Well Selena, We love the music you are making and what you stand for and can’t wait to watch your career skyrocket!
