Verge’s Artist of the Week: 5 Seconds of Summer

Today! The Australian pop punk boy band has released their sophomore album Sounds Good Feels Good and it’s steaming up the charts!

The group formed in 2011, composed of members Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin, and Michael Clifford, originally were YouTube celebrities posting covers of other artists tracks. In 2012 they rose to fame touring with One Direction on the Take Me Home tour.

Though the members reject the description of a boy band, lovers of the boy band genre will definitely appreciate this music. In Feb. 2014 they released their debut single “She Looks So Perfect” topping charts in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the UK. Their self titled debut album soon followed.

The band is still on the rise and continually catching the attention from major music labels and publishers. This past May they embarked on their first headlining tour “Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour” and released the first single of their new album “She’s Kinda Hot”.

The recently released album includes 17 new rocking tracks and can be listened to fully on Spotify now! They have also released their tour dates for the album so check them out when they hit up London on Sunday November 8th.
