Verge meets: Rants N Bants

Verge was lucky enough to have a lovely chat with one of the hottest names in social media right now! Starting with Snapchat and progressing to Instagram, Rants N Bants is taking over all aspects of social media and we wanted to know a little bit more about the journey so far!

How did Rants N Bants form?

I’m known as “Rants”, founder of Rants N Bants. Rants N Bants was born in response to the positive feedback from my Snapchat stories. I’m someone that was vlogging daily and my close friends were constantly putting pressure on me to share my videos with the outside world so I did. The rest is history.

Social media is a massive platform for you right now, was the rapid growth part of the original plan?
Over 150,000 followers across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat it’s crazy to be honest. It was never my intention to make money or a career from this, it was started as a bit of fun, but the response to it all forced me to take it seriously.

How important do you think social media is for the industry?
Social media is massive. The speed of the turnaround and the reach makes it almost impossible to compete with. It’s opened doors and changed the way we are entertained forever. To be honest before Love Island there was nothing that had me tuned in religiously, I’m not somebody that watches television. Besides Power there’s nothing I can commit to watching on a weekly basis, let alone daily. I initially started watching Love Island to support my boy Josh Denzel, but it took me by surprise and I was hooked.

We find your post’s hilarious and equally at times really close to the mark, do you try to push boundaries intentionally?
I don’t say things for the sole purpose of being provocative but if I feel something has to be said I don’t care if it’s an unpopular opinion, I’ll say it with my chest.

Have you ever had any backlash on social for saying something too honest?
I get backlash on a daily basis- you’re never going to be everyone’s cup of tea and I’m never going to care, so I just ignore it.

Plans? We want to know what’s next for Rants N Bants?
Just going to continue to grow the platforms and grow as a brand. Plenty of  positive things going on in the background which will come to light very soon- It’s an exciting time.

What is your biggest rant right now?
At the moment I can’t even really complain. Apart from my team (Manchester United) playing some of the worst football I’ve seen in my life…everything is cool. I’m making a conscious effort to put my energy into more positive, light-hearted issues because negativity is emotionally taxing. Bants is everything. I’m the kind of person that can find comedy in any situation. I see it as a positive, but it can also be a negative when it’s time to be quote on quote serious and I’m still running jokes- there’s no off switch.
