As the race hots up at the top of the Christmas charts, on 11th December, Google will be launching Nest Audio Sessions: Christmas Number 1s – a series of live performances by four top UK artists where they will reimagine their favourite Christmas Number 1s from the comfort of their homes. They include:
- BRIT Award winners and platinum selling rock band, Bastille
- Chart topping artist and BRIT Award winner, Ella Eyre
- Brighton born singer-songwriter and all-round creative, Sam Tompkins
- East London’s emerging R&B star, Olivia Dean
Christmas Number 1s is the latest edition of Google’s Nest Audio Sessions series which has seen leading artists from all over the world deliver exclusive performances from their homes. These have included Jessie Ware, Mabel, Ella Mai, Olly Alexander (Years & Years), Celeste and Tove Lo.
Dan Smith from Bastille said: “We loved having the opportunity to get together to work on our version of a Christmas classic for Nest Audio Sessions Christmas Number 1s. It was loads of fun on the day and definitely got us all in the Christmas spirit.”
Ella Eyre said: “Christmas number 1’s are a staple UK tradition…there’s so many timeless classics out there and you can’t help but get into the Christmas spirit when you hear them. My Christmas number 1 couldn’t be less of a Christmas song but I’m excited to share my festive twist on it’.”
Google spokesperson said: “During a period where everyone is spending more time at home, people may need that extra boost to get into the Christmas mood. Without the usual Christmas parties and meetups with friends and family, music will be more important than ever in sprinkling that added bit of festive joy. Nest Audio Sessions: Christmas Number 1s has been created with this in mind, giving people the chance to hear some of their favourite Christmas classics reimagined by exciting UK artists – all in high quality sound through our newest smart speaker; Nest Audio”.
To listen to the specially curated playlist, just say ‘Hey Google, play Nest Christmas Number 1s’ and your Google Nest smart speaker or display device will play the festive tunes. You can also find the songs on the artists’ YouTube channels and on Spotify and YouTube Music afterwards – who knows, one of the songs may contend for that Christmas top spot!
