UBERX SHARE LAUNCHES NATIONWIDE OFFERING STUDENTS AFFORDABLE TRAVEL ACROSS THE UK

UberX Share, Uber’s budget-friendly ride-sharing option, is rolling out nationwide this May following a successful trial in Bristol. The service, ideal for students seeking cheaper travel alternatives, offers savings of up to 20% compared to standard UberX rides.

Designed with affordability and sustainability in mind, UberX Share matches riders heading in the same direction. This shared approach keeps costs low and helps reduce environmental impact by cutting down on emissions and congestion, especially beneficial in university towns and busy city centres.

During the Bristol pilot, UberX Share quickly became popular with students and young adults, especially night-time travellers (35% of rides) and daily commuters (25% of rides), demonstrating its convenience for both social outings and routine trips to campus.

Trips on UberX Share typically only add about eight minutes to travel time on average, making it a practical option for students balancing busy schedules.

Andrew Brem, General Manager of Uber UK, highlighted the benefits, saying:

“UberX Share is perfect for students looking for cost-effective, eco-friendly ways to travel. It reduces costs, cuts congestion, and makes sustainable travel accessible for everyone.”

How UberX Share Works:

  • Request: Enter your destination in the Uber app, select ‘Share,’ and confirm your ride.
  • Ride: Uber matches you with riders going your way. Double-check the vehicle details provided in the app before hopping in.
  • Hop out: Payment is automatic via the app, so you can simply exit upon arrival. Remember to rate and tip your driver if your experience was great.

The national rollout of UberX Share follows the launch of Uber One for Students which offers exclusive, budget-friendly benefits to students for just £2.49 a month. The membership provides perks like free delivery on Uber Eats orders, up to 60% off service fees for eligible Uber Eats orders up to 60% off service fees for eligible Uber Eats orders, and access to daily deals such as 2-for-1 cinema tickets. Students can also earn up to 10% Uber One credits on all Uber rides, making it a convenient and affordable option for both transportation and meal ordering.

UberX Share will be available across the UK this April, with London joining later in 2025.
