Three UK reveals a third of phones get damaged during football celebrations

Following the cheers of England football fans on Sunday, Three UK has revealed why you should be holding onto your phone extra tightly when jumping for joy, as new research finds one third (29%) of British football fans have damaged their phone during a match. What’s more, the majority (59%) admit to damaging it more than once.

The study found that the most common damage was a cracked screen (51%), followed by dents or scratches (42%), and liquid damage (20%). Now Three customers can cheer without fear, as the mobile network is offering inclusive screen repairs for those on its 24-Month ‘Complete’ Three Your Way plan.

The research also highlighted that the most frequent damage was caused by jumping up and down (48%), followed by a friend whacking the phone out of their hand (28%), or being knocked off a table (20%).

The pub is the riskiest place for a phone, with 38% of the damages happening here. However, one in five damaged their phone whilst at their home.

And there’s a hidden cost to celebrating, as 30% had to fork out over £90 to repair their phone as a result – another reason to have inclusive screen repair within a mobile phone contract such as Three’s ‘Complete’ plan.
