Special thanks are in order to the LTA, who graciously helped Verge enjoy an amazing experience this weekend at the Nitto ATP Finals.
With “like you’re watching it on TV” seats, we were able to watch both singles and doubles round-robin action. For doubles group stage match, Robert Farah and Juan Sebastián Cabal of Columbia took it in straight sets. Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies went the distance in the first set, but after falling in the tie break, it was too little too late
The final tally was 7 (9) – 6 (7), 6-2. The one seed Farah/Cabal would end up falling in the semi-finals.
As for singles, it was the number one player in the world, Rafael Nadal, winning 2-1 over the young but supremely talented Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece. The 6th ranked 21 years old, even after losing to the top-ranked Spaniard, would go on to eventually win the entire tournament.
Before defeating Dominic Thiem in the finals, Tsitsipas nearly went the distance with Nadal. He won the first set after a tie break but fell in back to back sets. 6 (4) – 7 (7), 6 – 4, 7 – 5 was the final.
