The Gym Group has revealed that fitness remains a priority in 2023 for 18-23 year olds. As student freshers begin their university terms across the country, the nationwide low-cost gym chain has seen gym visits in its student town and city locations increase. Gym members in this age demographic in Bath, Liverpool, Nottingham, and Leeds visit most often, and within that list, its Guildford, Nottingham, and Bristol gyms have seen the biggest uptick in health-conscious students putting freshers’ fun on the backburner to focus on their fitness.
The Gym Group has revealed its top 10 gyms in student towns and cities that members aged 18-23 visit most often on average per month:
- Bath City
- Liverpool Central & Nottingham City
- Leeds Headingley
- Manchester Fallowfield
- Guildford; Newcastle City & London Bloomsbury
- Southampton Portswood & Bristol City Centre
And within that list, members in its Guildford gym aged 18-23 are frequenting their gym 29% more than they did pre-pandemic.*
The data also revealed the top five student town and city gyms as: [according to increased visits in 2023 vs. 2019]
- Guildford – 29%
- Liverpool Central – 26%
- Nottingham City – 26%
- Bristol City Centre – 25%
- Manchester Fallowfield – 21%
Scott Baker, General Manager at The Gym Group Guildford, commented: “It’s clear from talking to many of our student members that they try to fit exercise sessions into their routine as often as they can, and that working out is a priority for their physical and mental health. Our low cost really appeals to people who want to get lots of value out of their gym membership and our 24/7 availability gives students that flexibility to exercise whenever they want.”
