THE FIRST WEEKEND OF ROCK IN RIO LISBON 2024 WAS AN EXPLOSIVE SHOWCASE OF MUSICAL BRILLIANCEe

Rock in Rio Lisbon’s opening weekend drew a sold-out crowd of 160,000 over two days to the new City of Rock, delivering unforgettable performances and electrifying moments. Packed into two days –  June 15th to 16th – Rock In Rio Lisbon kicked off in grand style with legendary acts like the Scorpions, who captivated the crowd, Evanescence with powerful hits like “My Immortal” and “Bring Me to Life,” and Extreme’s emotional rendition of the national anthem. 

Xutos & Pontapés, along with the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, delivered stirring renditions of classics like “À Minha Maneira” and “Casinha.” A mesmerising pyromusical light show celebrated the festival’s 20th anniversary, and Europe’s performance of “The Final Countdown” left the audience in delight. The Tejo Stage featured memorable sets by Peste & Sida, Blind Zero, and The Legendary Tigerman, while the Super Bock Digital Stage highlighted Soraia Tavares, Dário Guerreiro, and Eduardo Madeira with Filipe Homem Fonseca.

Day two continued the momentum with another 80,000 attendees flocking to the stunning new festival site. Ed Sheeran’s return after a decade, delivered a heartfelt and captivating performance with hits like “Castle On The Hill”, “Shivers”, and “Give Me Love”. Sheeran’s intimate set, with just his guitar, created a powerful connection with the audience, making it a truly memorable experience. Calum Scott moved the crowd with “You Are The Reason” and “Dancing On My Own”, while Jão energised the audience with “Idiota” and a playful pastel de nata moment on stage. Fernando Daniel’s duet with Lukas Graham on “Love Someone” was a standout, showcasing a beautiful blend of their voices.

The Galp Stage featured Jake Bugg, Carolina de Deus, and a vibrant closing set by Diego Miranda, who had the crowd dancing to a remix of “Ibiza for Dreams” featuring Liliana Almeida. The diverse lineup on the Super Bock Digital Stage included captivating performances and comedy acts that kept the audience entertained throughout the day.

The first weekend has set a high bar, promising an equally unforgettable experience next weekend with world-class performers and the City of Rock’s vibrant atmosphere. Stay tuned for more incredible performances and magical moments at Rock in Rio Lisbon.

The second weekend of the 20th Anniversary edition of Rock In Rio Lisbon takes place Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June 2024 at Parque Tejo, with the likes of Doja Cat, Jonas Brothers, Macklemore, Camila Cabello, Ne-Yo And many more all set to perform. Rock in Rio’s 40th Anniversary has been announced for September 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd, with artists like Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Shawn Mendes, Mariah Carey, and more.
