Tech Now: the All-New Blink Mini security camera from Amazon

Amazon announced the all-new Blink Mini, a compact, indoor smart home security plug-in camera with 1080p HD resolution, motion detection and two-way audio. When paired with the Blink Home Monitor app, Blink Mini lets customers see a live view of their home, or hear and talk to people and pets in real-time. Customers can also save their video clips using their Blink cloud storage subscription plan or, coming soon, use the new Blink Sync Module 2 for local video storage. Blink Mini is available for pre-order starting today on Amazon.co.uk for £34.99 and will begin shipping to customers in May. Customers who purchase a Blink Mini also receive a free trial of the Blink cloud storage subscription plan with their purchase.

Blink Mini offers motion detection with customised detection zones so customers are only alerted to the movement that matters to them. Blink Mini can record 1080p HD video during the day, and supports infrared HD night vision for video capture in low light. Using the Blink Home Monitor app, customers can receive notifications on their smartphone when motion is detected, and use two-way audio to speak to people or pets in their home from anywhere. Blink Mini is also easy to setup – just plug it in, connect it to Wi-Fi, and add it to the Blink Home Monitor app. Customers can also pair Blink Mini with a supported Alexa-enabled device to view recorded videos, turn on live view, or arm and disarm the camera using just their voice.

More Storage Options for Customers

With the introduction of Blink Mini and, coming later this year, the new Blink Sync Module 2 (sold separately), customers now have even more options for storing their video clips. Customers who purchase a Blink Mini will receive a free trial of the Blink Plus subscription plan through 31 March 2021. After that, customers have the option to continue with a Blink Basic subscription for cloud storage for a single device, or a Blink Plus subscription which supports cloud video storage for an unlimited number of cameras at a single location.

For customers who want a subscription-free local storage option, the Blink Sync Module 2 will support local storage of video clips with no monthly fees required. Simply insert a USB flash drive (sold separately) into the Blink Sync Module 2 and use it to store video for up to 10 Blink Mini cameras at the same location. With the Blink Sync Module 2 customers can view, share and download locally stored videos from Blink Mini cameras anytime through the Blink Home Monitor app, or plug the USB into compatible devices for replaying video clips from their PC.

Pricing and Availability

The all-new Blink Mini is just £34.99 for one camera or get two cameras for only £64.99. All Blink Mini cameras come with a free trial of the Blink Plus cloud storage subscription plan, valid through 31 March 2021. After that, customers can subscribe to the Blink Basic subscription plan for £2.50 per month or £24.99 per year, or upgrade to the Blink Plus plan for £8 per month or £80 per year, or choose local storage with the purchase of a Blink Sync Module 2 for €39.99 – coming later this year.
