Since the launch of Amazon Fire for Kids and Fire for Kids Unlimited, over 20 million kids and their parents globally have trusted Amazon to give them the parental controls they need to provide a safe place for their children to enjoy the premium books, games, shows, and movies that kids love.
From Monday, September 13th, we’re delighted to announce that Amazon Fire for Kids and Amazon Fire for Kids Unlimited will become Amazon Kids and Amazon Kids+. The new name reflects our commitment to delivering the best possible child-friendly content experience, with exciting plans to continue expanding the offering. You’ll see this name change roll out in the coming months, and our goal remains the same: to bring kids fun, educational content, while also providing parental controls for peace of mind.
Amazon Kids offers a free suite of easy-to-use parental controls that give parents the ability to add titles from their own content library, and set educational goals and time limits by content type—such as videos, games, and more. It also includes an optional kids browser featuring kid-safe websites and web videos, all vetted by the Amazon Kids and Family team. Amazon Kids+ is an optional all-in-one content subscription service that can be added to your child’s profile within Amazon Kids for an even more enhanced experience. It offers access to more than 10,000 premium books, videos, Audible books, educational apps, and games that are kid-friendly and hand-curated with new titles added regularly.
Over the past five years, the Amazon Fire for Kids and Fire for Kids Unlimited experiences have expanded to include more types of content across more devices, and today we’re bringing even more features we hope families will love:
- New Home Screen Experience for children aged 8+: Amazon Kids now offers more flexibility to customise the software experience on Fire Kids Edition tablets, so that it can grow with your child. Our new home screen theme includes a more personalised experience that looks and feels more like a grown-up tablet. Parents can change the theme under the “Adjust Age Filters and Themes” section within the Amazon Parent Dashboard.
- New Music and More Videos for Older Kids in Amazon Kids+: Now kids can enjoy hundreds of new video titles hand-selected for kids ages 6 to 12, including gaming playthrough videos and PG and live-action titles from popular brands and characters like LEGO, Enchantimals, X-Men and more. Coming soon will also be easy access to music stations and playlists from Fun Kids directly on the Amazon Kids home screen of your child’s Fire Kids Edition tablet.
- Available on more devices than ever before: From today, Amazon Kids and Amazon Kids+ are now available on both iOS and Android devices. The iOS and Android apps will give access to kid-friendly content, allow parents to filter content based on their child’s age, and provide activity reports and insights into content their children consumes.
Amazon Kids is completely free to parents, and Amazon Kids+ subscriptions start at £1.99 a month for Prime members and £3.99 per month for customers who are not yet Prime members.
The same Amazon Kids+ subscription can be used across any compatible device to access even more child-friendly content, including Fire tablets, Kindle e-readers, iOS, Chrome OS, and Android devices. This includes age-appropriate books, Audible books, videos, educational apps and games. The content experience will vary based on device.
