That forgotten Allen key sitting in your kitchen drawer is about to become surprisingly valuable. For one night only, Taskrabbit is transforming Shoreditch pub The Horse & Groom into The Allen Arms, where the humble flatpack essential becomes the only accepted currency at the bar. Bring along a spare Allen key on 29th July, hand it over instead of reaching for your wallet, and exchange it for a refreshing and very free pint.
From 5pm, the pub will open to the public after having undergone a DIY-inspired makeover, complete with classic pub games adapted for the occasion like beer mat flipping challenges. Every Allen key handed in during the event will also be responsibly recycled once the evening comes to an end.
The activation highlights Taskrabbit’s furniture assembly service, offering a light-hearted reminder that flatpack furniture doesn’t have to mean hours spent deciphering instruction manuals or searching for missing screws. Annette Claisse, General Manager for Europe at Taskrabbit, says the Allen key has become an almost universal symbol of DIY, with most households owning several despite rarely using them. The campaign encourages people to leave the assembly to skilled Taskers, and spend more time enjoying themselves instead – perhaps with a pint in hand.

Taskrabbit’s The Allen Arms will open from 5pm on Wednesday 29th July at The Horse & Groom, 28 Curtain Rd, London EC2A 3NZ. Entry is free on a first come, first served basis, with one complimentary pint available per person in exchange for an Allen key while stocks last.
