Stormzy performs in the BBC Radio 1Xtra Live Lounge for the finale of their MC Month

Fresh from debuting his latest grime anthem, “Standard” last week and announcing his own weekly Apple Beats1 radio show, “#MERKY” earlier this month, UK lyricist Stormzy recently took a stop at BBC Radio 1Xtra to grace the mic alongside his live band for the finale of the station’s “MC Month”.

The independent MC performed two tracks in total; a remix of “Shut Up” and “Standard” combined, followed by a sublime cover of Krept and Konan’s “Falling” remixed with Santana’s classic release, “Maria, Maria”.

The Live Lounge appearance comes after Stormzy made history in September when his ‘WickedSkengman4’ freestyle made it to No.18 in the official UK singles chart, making it the highest charting freestyle, ever. At just 22 years of age, nothing could have prepared Stormzy for his meteoric rise over the last year; winning 3 MOBO Awards to date, the South-London MC’s work rate has led to a rapid ascent into the music world and last year he became the first unsigned rapper to appear on Later… With Jools Holland. Subsequent to this success, he came third in the prestigious BBC Sound of 2015 Awards in January and also opened up this year’s BBC 1Xtra Grime Proms at The Royal Albert Hall.
