StockX and Daniel Arsham Present ‘Art & Residence’ Exhibition

StockX is pleased to announce the launch of In Residence, a new multidisciplinary program designed to amplify the work of brands, creators, and collectives through a unified theme. Contemporary artist and designer, Daniel Arsham, has been selected as the inaugural curatorial partner, and will explore the role of furniture design in today’s world.

Arsham will begin with a group exhibition at Milan Design Week titled ‘Art & Residence’. From June 7 through June 12, Spazio Maiocchi will be home to the pioneering exhibit, which features new works from leading creatives, each of whom have reinterpreted the chair. Following this presentation, Arsham’s residency will continue through the end of September, punctuated by DropX-exclusive product releases inspired by the programme’s theme spanning categories such as apparel, accessories, and collectibles.

In recent years, furniture has evolved beyond the design community, and has captured the attention of today’s cultural consumer. Iconic daybeds, sofa silhouettes and seating are no longer confined to traditional gallery and collector settings, but have emerged in the homes of athletes, musicians and sneaker collectors, thanks to new contemporary designers and brand collaborations.

‘Art & Residence’ explores how traditional design and hype culture worlds are colliding and brings together creatives to push the boundaries of design. From fashion designers to architects, ‘Art & Residence’ bridges creative communities – from the worlds of StockX and beyond.

Representing a diverse assortment of practices and perceptions of the theme, works by Daniel Arsham x USMRhee StudioSnarkitecture x GuframPlaylabEny Lee ParkerEYEFUNNYGrace Wales Bonner x MabeoPHILLLLLLTHYdoublet and Hidden NY will be featured in the exhibition.

“The lines between the fine art and design worlds, as well as the hype community have started to blur, and as interior design reaches new audiences, it’s important to incorporate fresh perspectives,” said Arsham. “StockX is a brand with its finger on the pulse of what resonates with those interested in culture. Working together through the ‘In Residence’ program, we’re tapping a group of talented, cutting edge creatives to reimagine the status quo and push the boundaries of what design can truly be.”

StockX tapped Playlab, the LA-based multidisciplinary creative studio, to design the exhibition space for the activation at Milan Design Week. The In Residence program will also be anchored by editorial and educational content highlights and charitable initiatives benefiting the Daniel Arsham x StockX Next Gen Scholarship Fund announced last year.

“Access and connection with community are core to StockX and who we are as a brand,” said StockX VP of Cultural Marketing, Tom Woodger. “We’re leveraging one of the preeminent design moments of the year to debut our ‘In Residence’ program; a program that provides creatives and brands–regardless of their size or notoriety–with the opportunity to connect directly with our community in a way that highlights their curatorial and personal perspective.”
