SOS HYDRATION PLEDGES TO #HYRDRATEOURHEROES ON THE NHS FRONT LINE

British brand, SOS Hydration, is today launching #HydrateOurHeroes – an initiative to help NHS staff fight COVID-19 on the front line.  SOS Hydration will donate 5,000 free SOS electrolyte drink mix packs to help NHS workers combat the effects of dehydration.  Scientific research has proved that 2% dehydration can result in a loss of up to 25% physical performance.

When working busy shifts in exceptional conditions, it’s important to consume the right balance of electrolytes – not only water – to prevent dehydration and fatigue.  NHS hospitals can request FREE SOS electrolyte drink mix packs in either Berry, Citrus, Mango, Coconut or Watermelon flavours by registering online at:

Dehydration is the number one cause of daytime fatigue. Busy clinical staff wearing essential personal protective equipment (PPE) during long shifts have reduced opportunities to take drinks, meaning they are particularly susceptible to dehydration. A 2016 study by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust found that 45% of on-call doctors and nurses end their shifts dehydrated.

Founder Dr Blanca Lizaola-Mayo, Post CCT Fellow in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology, who developed one of the world’s most advanced hypotonic drinks commented: “The issue of hydration is often overlooked. Medical staff need to stay hydrated to perform at their best. No-one deserves good hydration more than our hardworking NHS heroes which is why we’ve donated 5,000 free SOS electrolyte drink mix packs to front line workers and we’re promising to donate an extra two servings for every purchase made by our customers

Dr Lizaola-Mayo added: “One of the main symptoms of the Coronavirus is fever which causes dehydration which can further exacerbate the fever. One of the best natural ways to combat any viral illness is by drinking plenty of fluids. As an oral rehydration solution SOS can help reduce the impact of symptoms and aid recovery, while providing essential hydration and electrolytes to boost your immune system.”

As an oral rehydration solution, SOS is scientifically proven to accelerate rehydration as effectively as an intravenous drip. Developed by a team comprising a former British Army officer, an ex-British international athlete and a leading doctor, it is a cutting-edge electrolyte drink, with added magnesium and zinc, formulated to meet World Health Organisation oral rehydration solution (ORS) standards.

Founder and former British Infantry Officer James Mayo, added: “We developed SOS for optimal hydration and balance of electrolytes and minerals and have tested it in sporting, ER and disaster zone environments. At times like this, the last thing we need is for healthcare workers to be suffering when they are going above and beyond to help us all.”
