The month kicks off with honouring the Pride Month. Don’t miss your favourite cinematic queens including the fabulous drag queens in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on the 4th and Kirsten Dunst’s portrayal of the infamous Marie Antoinette on the 5th at Bussey Building.
Rooftop Film Club will also be screening several LGBTQIA+ hits. Head down to Bussey on the 23rd June for the outrageous The Birdcage and on the 30th for the toe-tapping, emotional Elton John biopic Rocketman!, which will also feature a fabulous sing-along for all the budding vocalists and an exclusive rainbow cocktail-making workshop from our friends at De Kuyper Liqueurs. Over in Stratford, Roof East will be screening the coming-of-age comedy, Booksmart on 9th June, musical comedy-drama film Hedwig and the Angry Inch on the 23rd and iconic musical horror, The Rocky Horror Picture Show on 30th.
Fans of classic romance drama Lost In Translation are in for a treat this month with an exclusive, one-off event on 16th June at Bussey Building, where author Hannah Strong will be talking about her new book Sofia Coppola: Forever Young. Strong will be on hand to talk everything Coppola, answer all your burning questions about the filmmaker and sign copies of her book, before a screening of the iconic noughties movie.
One for the design fanatics out there, The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) will be coming to the Rooftop in June for a trio of special screenings. Bussey Building will be showing Black Panther (14th June) The Power of the Dog (28th June) and In the Mood for Love (21st June) each of which will be preceded by a talk from a RIBA special guest, giving unique insight and context to these enthralling films.
This summer, Rooftop Film Club will also be honouring the London Indian Film Festival with a screening of Four Lions to kick off July on the 1st at Roof East. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on special guest speakers, soon to be announced on Rooftop Film Club’s social channels.
With June seeing the arrival of ultra meta action comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent hitting screens, there’s no better time to hail at the altar of Nicolas Cage. Rooftop Film Club has joined forces with Matchbox Cine – an independent film exhibitor, specialising in cult film. Expect a weekend of the undefinable actor’s best performances to ring in The Second Summer of Cage! Screened entirely with open captions, Bussey Rooftop will be showing his newest film & celebrating the 25th anniversary of his massive (and very Cage-y) action hits from 1997: Con Air and Face/Off! So go on, get your Cage rage on.
Lovers of cult film are in for a treat across the whole of June, with screenings of classics that draw devoted crowds. From The Mask on 21st and Clueless on 25th at Roof East, to Pretty Women on 12th and Fight Club on 24th, there’s something for lovers of every film era.
No cinema trip would be complete without a selection of delicious snacks. At Peckham grab a sundowner from the all-new cocktail menu at the Instagrammable Bussey Rooftop Bar brought to you by our bar partner De Kuyper Royal Distillers. Their Margarita, Blue Lagoon and Kir Royale cocktails are not to be missed, nor are their limited edition movie-inspired cocktails at select screenings. Pair this with an authentic stone-baked delight from the new menu at Share A Slice pizza, who will be serving up fave classics plus lots of new & exciting flavour combinations. You can also win a De Kuyper Cocktail kit when you share a picture of your cocktail and tag De Kuyper & #Let’s Have A Cocktail! Look out for QR entry codes at Bussey Rooftop Bar on how to enter.
At Roof East, you have the whole roof at your disposal. Grab a snack at Naughty Burger, Raastawala, Piddaji and Treats Club and sample a whole range of drinks including wine, craft beers, soft drinks and mocktails alongside a specially crafted cocktail menu.
