Former England striker Peter Crouch was given the ultimate American Football 101 lesson with NFL Hall of Fame candidate, Tony Boselli and Superbowl champion, Mark Brunell.
Crouchy invited the Jacksonville Jaguars legends down to Wembley stadium to talk all things American Football for the new series, That Peter Crouch American Football Show. Through four fun and engaging episodes fans can watch as Peter is given a crash course on the rules of the game, play calling and is even kitted out in his own personalised Jaguars jersey to practice a set of drills.
With the Jacksonville Jaguars being the only NFL team committed to the UK after recognising the ever-growing popularity of the sport, they wanted to educate novice fans about the game, giving them a real insight into the rules and strategies of the game and what it is like to be an NFL player.
Crouch, who has pledged his loyalty to the Jacksonville Jaguars said: “I’ve always wanted to get into the sport but have never quite understood the rules until now. There’s a lot to take in but I’ve learnt so much off the guys and feel like I’m fully prepared for the new season. I can’t wait!
It’s amazing what the Jags are doing in London, I was shocked to hear how many young people areplaying the sport. When a game is on, the buzz around the city is unique and it’s something I’m reallylooking forward to experiencing.
The former Liverpool striker came into the series as an American Football novice and tried to impress the guys by bringing in his ‘football for dummies’ book, which unfortunately provided no help whatsoever.
Brunell, who played for the Jaguars between 1995-2003 said:
I’m not sure Peter would have made the cut as an NFL player but he’s shown great enthusiasm and we’re thrilled to have another Jags fanon board. It’s been a blast filming with the guys and we’re looking forward to seeing Peter when we’re back at Wembley.
Tony Boselli, NFL Hall of Fame candidate echoed Mark’s point, he said: “I can’t say I would have been fearful of Peter on the field, but it’s been brilliant to hang out and teach him about our sport. Wehope this series will attract new fans to get more engaged with American Football but there’s also something for existing fans to enjoy.”
